What to eat and where during the 2025 Mercè Festival in Barcelona
A Catalan wine fair, dishes from the best restaurants, and the official desserts of Barcelona's festival.
No festival is complete without a food festival, so we've rounded up some of the plans to fill your stomach during La Mercè, Barcelona's biggest festival. We've divided it up between drinks, teak, and dessert.
Drinks
That Catalonia is a first-class wine-producing region isn't news. Or is it? There are still many people unaware of the incredible heritage we have. That's why, and to make it easier for us, the country's twelve DOs will be represented at the Palau Robert on September 24th, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. There will be a wide variety of wines to taste and twelve tapas, one for each DO, designed to accompany them. And it doesn't end there: there will be several activities planned, such as tastings and other surprises related to the world of wine. This Catalan Wine Festival has been organized with the support of the Catalan Institute of Vine and Wine (INCAVI), which provides theearly entry (8 euros), which includes two glasses of wine and a tapa. Buying it saves you the trouble of waiting in line, which, let's face it, no one likes.
The Teak
The Terra i Gust festival is already one of the classics of La Mercè. It will be held from September 26th to 28th and will be located in the Parc de la Ciutadella again. It will feature fourteen local restaurants. It's clear that the Slow Food association is involved in the selection. The restaurants chosen were: Agreste Mar, Bar Súper, Bistrot Levante, Casa Chica, El Brote, El Filete Ruso, Espacio Puntal, Fella Pizza, Happy Food Eco, La Sosenga, Llamber, Mezcladís, Teórico Taberna Gastronómica, and a restaurateur from Manchester, the guest city. Each restaurateur will offer two succulent dishes. Other events are also taking place at Terra i Gust, such as showcookings, workshops and games for all audiences, tastings, and talks. Of note are the appearances by Glug chef Beatrice Casella; Víctor Quintillà from Lluerna; a tribute to Josep Lladonosa; and the presentation of Lladonosa's latest book.Pep Salsetes.
You'll also find drinks here, of course. They continue their collaboration with the Barcelona Beer Festival and their selection of craft beers. The wines will be natural and from projects such as L'Olivera, Rabassaires, Vinos de Grop, Terra Buxena, and Clot de les Soleres. Once again, Lov Kombucha and the Delacrem ice creams.
The dessert
Thedessert of La MercedThey are becoming more popular year after year, and can now be found in dozens of Barcelona bakeries to celebrate the festival. This dessert emerged unexpectedly in 2021, during a lunch between Alkimia chef Jordi Vilà and his friend and renowned pastry chef Antonio Bachour. When they realized that Barcelona didn't have a specific dessert for La Mercè, they decided to remedy the situation. Thus, the almond and fig-based cake was born. A year later, the Barcelona Pastry Guild took up the baton and shared the recipe for the cake. It can be found in more than a hundred bakeries.
