The Spanish government abolishes the requirement for the unemployed to file an income tax return

The Spanish government has reversed its decision, and workers receiving unemployment benefits will not have to file an income tax return in 2026, as originally planned. The Spanish executive branch proposed the measure for reasons of legal certainty and to increase the transparency of the system.
