The financial entity leads an operation that contributes 85 million to Puy du Fou, the theme park located in Toledo
BarcelonaCaixaBank leads a syndicated operation to finance Puy du Fou with 85 million euros, an amusement park about the history of Spain located in Toledo. With this operation, in which other financial entities participate, the promoter company, of French origin, will consolidate the growth of the facility, which has been operating since 2021, and will advance in the construction of the first hotel within the premises.
Thanks to this financing, Puy du Fou will develop its activity with more live shows, one of its characteristics; and it will also begin an expansion phase with the construction of the first hotel establishment within the park. With this operation, CaixaBank also reaffirms "its role as a reference financial partner for the tourism sector," the bank highlights.
Puy du Fou Spain is a theme park of more than thirty hectares dedicated to the history of Spain through artistic performances, historical villages, and nature. It was inaugurated in 2021 and CaixaBank already participated in the financing of its construction.
It was created in France from an idea by politician Philippe de Villiers, who was the founder of Mouvement pour la France (MPF) and a candidate for president of the republic in 1995 and 2007. Furthermore, the Spanish subsidiary has the insurer Mapfre as a shareholder, with 19%.
The company's board of directors proposed a few days ago to appoint as vice president the former Minister of Education, Culture and Sport under the government of Mariano Rajoy (PP), Iñigo Méndez de Vigo. This must be ratified by the shareholders' meeting on June 24. The park in Toledo received 1.72 million visitors last year and generated more than 70 million euros in revenue. The park has about 1,300 direct employees, mainly from the community of Castilla-La Mancha, and generates more than 3,500 indirect jobs, in addition to collaborating with more than 550 local suppliers, according to company data.
