Barcelona triumphs: in the world's top 5 for combining work and vacation

Second in Europe and fifth in the world: a ranking places the Catalan capital as one of the most popular places to do workation.

The city is only behind Budapest, with 89.5 points, according to the annual barometer of the International Workplace Group (IWG), a multinational company specializing in renting offices with brands such as Spaces or Regus.

The most popular city in the world to do workation is Tokyo, with 91 points. The capital of Japan has surpassed Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, the winner of the previous edition of the barometer, by one point. In third place is Budapest, followed by Seoul, Korea.

The Catalan capital attracts this type of professionals due to its Mediterranean climate that is giving no respite this August, with unprecedented temperatures that are increasing day after day. According to the Swiss company, dedicated to offering spaces for coworkingBarcelona's excellent digital connectivity, as well as its diverse cultural and economic offerings, also play a role. In recent years, Barcelona has positioned itself as the location of choice for many international firms to establish their technology headquarters or research and development (R&D) centers in fields such as pharmaceuticals, chips, and artificial intelligence.
