90% of phones used in calls on behalf of Endesa are suspected of fraud

BarcelonaMore than 90% of the phone numbers used to call potential customers on behalf of Endesa are suspected of fraud. This is according to a search tool launched by the energy company to provide consumers with tools to avoid telephone fraud.

Since its launch at the end of September, the tool Check who called youThe search tool, available on the company's website, has received over 255,000 visits, representing 6% of the company's total corporate website traffic. Of these visits, 169,000 users checked a phone number, and the data is alarming: over 90% of the numbers checked were unauthorized by Endesa, confirming its usefulness as a protection mechanism against fraudulent business practices, as the company explains. The launch of the search tool is one of the awareness and outreach initiatives against scams that Endesa has implemented this year in response to the alarming increase in fraudulent practices targeting energy service users. Scammers impersonate Endesa's energy retailers, other large companies, or even the local distribution company, in order to carry out fraudulent contracts. Endesa says its goal is to protect users from telephone scams and abusive business practices that impersonate the company.

One in five customers falls victim to fraud.

The sector is finding that the main channel for these fraudulent practices is the telephone, and these malicious calls often lead customers to switch from one company to another without their knowledge and, of course, without their consent. According to the electricity company, the figures are alarming: one in five residential customers, or one in seven if we look at SMEs, have fallen for the scam and switched suppliers without their explicit consent. The electricity company explains that it's important to note that these calls are not related to Endesa's commercial activity or the data processing carried out by the company.
