What you definitely have to see at the Dansa Metropolitana festival

Rocío Molina, Lali Ayguadé, Marina Mascarell and up to 90 other shows will fill the metropolitan area with dance in March

12/02/2026

BarcelonaMarch is dance month: for three weeks, 90 dance performances will be presented in 12 locations across the metropolitan area, featuring world premieres, international guests, and the best of the local scene. The festival kicks off on March 6 in Hospitalet de Llobregat with TheyA community dance project featuring 70 people dancing in Plaça de la Cultura (8 pm) will kick off the festival, which will conclude with a public celebration in Parc de la Ciutadella on Sunday, March 22nd at noon. The program includes 177 performances, 73 of which are free and 27 are for families.

The goal of Danza Metropolitana, which began in 2018, is to cultivate audiences and create performance spaces for dance. The festival coordinator, Giulia Poltronieri, states that the festival has served as a showcase and a focal point, "with a loyal audience that is growing and eagerly awaiting it," but the objective of creating a permanent performance circuit "is more challenging throughout the year: there is the will from institutional policy, but we see that it needs more time than we anticipated."

For now, what we have is a concentrated selection of dance that is extraordinary in the European sphere: Lali Ayguadé, Lorena Nogal, Las Impuxibles, El Esbord, Vero Cendoya, The Royal Ballet, Montserrat Colomé, Poyo Rojo, Fabio Krayze Januário and much more.

We highlight the 10 must-see shows from the avalanche of performances at the festival.
