The Government creates a new fund to save farmhouses, churches and historical houses
The Minister of Culture announces a new multidisciplinary facility that will host concerts and sporting events
BarcelonaThe conservation of farmhouses, churches, and historic houses in the towns and cities of Catalonia will have, for the first time, a specific fund. This was announced this Saturday by the Minister of Culture, Sònia Hernández Almodóvar, who detailed that this fund will be used to preserve local architectural heritage, designed jointly with the Department of Economy and Finance, and will be launched throughout this legislative term.
The announcement was made at the Torre del Pretori in Tarragona during the event Two years building the future, where the minister defended the need to act on those heritage elements rooted in the territory that are at risk of deterioration. According to Hernández, the priority objective of this fund is to protect the buildings that explain the history of local communities and that often do not have enough resources for their rehabilitation.
In addition to the new heritage fund, the head of Culture has presented an investment plan of more than 50 million euros aimed at the improvement and construction of local cultural facilities throughout Catalonia, in collaboration with the city councils.
The minister also recalled some strategic projects underway, such as the recovery of the Foneria, the Casa de les Lletres, or the expansions of the MNAC, the MACBA, the National Archive, and the Mercat de les Flors.
A large musical and sports facility
During her speech, the minister linked the strengthening of the cultural system with the protection of democratic values at a time of proliferation of hate speech. Among the department's future priorities are the development of the Cultural Rights Law and the promotion of the National Pact for Culture.
In the digital sphere, Hernández announced the holding of an international forum in 2027 to analyze the impact of artificial intelligence on the processes of creation, distribution, and cultural thought. Finally, she confirmed that she is working on the project for a new large multidisciplinary facility—cultural and sporting—designed to host large-format events and consolidate Catalonia's international positioning.
