Anna Sahun recommends a writer "who is gold" for the summer

BarcelonaWhen it comes to choosing a lead writer, actress Anna Sahun doesn't hesitate for a moment: the Frenchman Emmanuel Carrère is one of the indispensable names in her library since she discovered him with L'adversari (Anagrama), originally published over twenty years ago. "It's a quick read, a very thin book, but you can't put it down," emphasizes the performer, who recalls discovering the French writer through her husband, actor and director Joel Joan. In L'adversari, which was adapted for the theatre in 2022, Carrère narrates the story of Jean-Claude Romand, a man who maintained a double life for eighteen years and who murdered his wife, children, and parents and attempted suicide when the truth was about to come out.

Sahun is a voracious reader and loyal to the writers who captivate her the most. She has read several titles by Carrère and finds it difficult to choose one over the others, because there isn't one that hasn't convinced her. "Anything by this writer is gold, believe me," exclaims Sahun, enthusiastically. The actress is currently performing Primera llei de Newton at La Villarroel, a show that focuses on the challenges of present-day education and in which Sahun plays the director of a school with a profound dilemma.

The most recent book by Carrère she has read is Kolkhoz, in which the writer starts from family intimacy – he recounts the life of his mother Hélène Carrère d'Encausse – to connect it with the history of the Soviet Union. "He has a fascinating way of writing and linking real stories with his language. He is an author who captivates me by how he writes," emphasizes the actress. Sahun also has a very good memory of Ioga, which she read last summer. In this book, Carrère explains the divorce and depression that led him to be hospitalized for four months in the Sainte-Anne psychiatric hospital, as well as episodes that marked his country, such as the terrorist attack against the magazine Charlie Hebdo.
