BarcelonaThe singer Aitana and Antonio Díaz, El Mago Pop, have acquired the Teatre Aquitània in Barcelona, a venue with 326 seats located at 33 Sarrià Avenue. According to a statement, the objective is "to generate new opportunities for professional creators in the sector, to promote the production and exhibition of new shows, and to contribute to the strengthening of Barcelona's cultural fabric." The programming will focus on "new proposals, new audiences, and new generations of creators." The Magician Pop is already the owner of the Teatre Victòria in Barcelona, which he bought in 2019 from Dagoll Dagom, El Tricicle and Anexa. Before a season in Broadway, in 2023, he also bought a theater in Missouri, which currently has no programming. The latest announcement from the magician is a stadium tour that will last several years, starting in Madrid in 2027 and ending at Camp Nou. In addition, he has recently confirmed his intention to expand the catalog of properties for performing arts with the Teatre Regina, which has closed its doors because the property is being sold entirely. Negotiations remain open. The Aquitània hall has had several lives. In 1945 it opened as Cine Infanta and then became Cine Aquitània. From 1991 to 2011 it was the headquarters of the Filmoteca de Catalunya, until it moved to the current building in El Raval. The cinema was uninhabited for two years until in July 2013 it reopened as a theater with a micro-theater offering managed by the Teatreneu company. Since then it has gone through various stages, especially with an offer of commercial theater, humor, and family shows. It closed for renovations and reopened in November 2017 with the historic theater producer Toni Coll, and later with Barc Produccions, managing the programming for the company Artisteando SL, which for a few months was evicted for non-payment. The current programming was only planned until July. From El Mago Pop's company they affirm that the reopening is not clear because it will be necessary to enter and carry out works. In any case, they will announce the programming later. Aitana explained in a video that they had dreamed for a long time of having a shared project with Antonio Díaz and that their "commitment to culture and the future of the performing arts" will for now focus on this Aquitània, which will have "a new life". El Mago Pop points out that for the first time he will have a partner in a project and celebrates that it is the singer: "We believe in the transformative power of culture and it is a privilege to be able to invest in it precisely in our land – he affirms–. We hope to contribute our bit so that Barcelona continues to be an international benchmark for the performing arts and that more and more artists find a place here to develop their talent".
