BarcelonaA few weeks ago, Abel Folk premiered at the Goya Theater Carnations, A show written by Emma Riverola (Barcelona, 1965). And, in fact, the actor chooses a book by this writer and playwright to recommend for the summer: Metamorphosis (Edhasa, 2023). "It's a complex and wonderful story, a-ma-ve-ll-ouse!" exclaims Folk, enthusiastic about this novel that takes place between Barcelona in 1937 and the present day. "It speaks of different generations with a series of conflicts that transcend time, of very turbulent family histories, with a perfume as a common thread. We have to discover why that perfume is the way it is, where it comes from, etc. It's fantastic how something so ethereal can end up resolving a conflict situation that has dragged on."

Published two years ago, Metamorphosis It is the sixth novel by Riverola, who is also the author of books such as The man who killed Messi (Edhasa, 2015) and Letters from Absence (Seix Barral, 2008). The writer spent six years crafting this story, which features two female characters and the shadow of Mercè Rodoreda, evoked through a series of fictional letters addressed to her. Through all of this, Riverola explores motherhood, the abandonment of her children, and the impact of war on people. Folk also emphasizes that it's a "very enjoyable book to read" and explains that he was fortunate enough to discuss it directly with the author while they were preparing the show.

The actor is a regular reader and points out that he doesn't always find titles that captivate him. "It's not so easy to find stories that, in some way, satisfy you on multiple levels. There are stories that move you, others that please you, that amuse you, that bore you profoundly. But one that awakens many emotions at once, there are few. This is one," he connoisseur said.
