The love story hidden behind 'The Devil Wears Prada'
Stanley Tucci met his wife thanks to Emily Blunt, his co-star in the film
BarcelonaLast week, actors Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci jointly received their respective stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The fact that they did the ceremony together is not only because they are co-stars in The Devil Wears Prada 2, but also for a second reason: they are technically family thanks to a love story that originated at the premiere of the original film. This is because in 2012, Blunt and Tucci became in-laws.
The Devil Wears Prada, in which Blunt and Tucci already participated, premiered in 2006. The actor attended the film's premiere accompanied by his wife, Kate Spath, who was then undergoing treatment for breast cancer. During the event, both Tucci and his wife met Emily Blunt's sister, literary agent Felicity Blunt. A year after his wife's death, which took place in 2009, Tucci attended the wedding of Emily Blunt and John Krasinski on Lake Como – the ceremony took place at George Clooney's house – and there he reunited with the actress's elder sister, with whom he eventually fell in love.
After that meeting, they began a relationship and in 2012 they married in a private ceremony in London, where Emily Blunt served as maid of honor and Steve Buscemi as best man. They were not the only celebrities who accompanied the couple: among the guests were also Julianne Moore and Colin Firth, among others.
The couple, who are 21 years apart (he is older than her), are parents to two children, born in 2015 and 2018. Tucci, 65, already had three children from his marriage to Spath. "It's not easy to find someone who accepts three teenagers and a widower. It's a lot. But she [Felicity] accepted the challenge. She loves the boys as if they were her own," Tucci explained in an interview with the Guardian in 2017. In the years they have been together, the couple has also experienced difficult times, such as when Tucci was diagnosed with cancer.
During the promotional tour for The Devil Wears Prada 2, Tucci and Emily Blunt have shown their good chemistry as in-laws, and the actress does not miss an opportunity to praise her sister's husband. "He is a Renaissance man who knows how to get to everyone's heart. And he's having a wonderful time. He's absolutely brilliant, he laughs right away, he loves to be laughed at, he's charismatic, warm, and energetic," Blunt explained to People magazine in 2022.
