"Suddenly I couldn't see or move": Jennifer Lopez recounts how she collapsed from exhaustion
The singer has explained that she suffered a serious health episode after chaining almost a hundred days of work without rest
Jennifer Lopez is one of the most recognizable figures in the entertainment industry, with a career that has combined music and film. This sustained demand is what led her, as she explained in an interview on the podcast SmartLess, to a physical collapse during the early stages of her career, when she was chaining projects without rest.
During the interview, the singer and actress recounted a personal episode in which a collapse caused by exhaustion forced her to stop working and seek medical attention. As she confessed, she suddenly lost her vision and mobility: “Suddenly I couldn't see — she recalled — it was as if something had covered my eyes and I couldn't focus or move.” Given the seriousness of the events, she asked for her assistant's help to notify her bodyguard, who took her to a vehicle. “I was completely paralyzed,” she added.
"I couldn't even move"
The reason? Lopez detailed that during that period she combined film shoots, musical recordings, and professional commitments with practically no rest. In total, she managed to work for 98 uninterrupted days, a pace that ended up taking a toll on her body. The first symptoms appeared during the filming of the movie Enough, when she began to notice palpitations and a feeling of disconnection. Shortly after, she retired to her dressing room, where her condition worsened to the point of being unable to move or see normally.
“Suddenly I couldn't see or move,” recalled the singer, who needed assistance to be taken to a medical center. Once attended to, professionals ruled out a neurological or psychiatric pathology and attributed the condition to a collapse due to extreme exhaustion. The artist explained that, once in the hospital, she feared it was something more serious: “I asked the doctor if I was going crazy and he told me no.”
Over time, Lopez explained that this episode marked a turning point in her relationship with work and rest, and that she didn't fully realize until later the level of overexertion she had subjected herself to.
