Why do we have less quality tourism?
Professor Andrei Boar explains why tourism spending has fallen

Recently, Idescat published that tourist spending visiting our country has fallen by 6% compared to the previous year. And the truth is, we shouldn't be surprised: geopolitics is the reason. You can always tell me that the number of tourists is increasing, yes, but not all tourists are the same.
Two main groups are affected by international conflicts: Russians and Americans (and I'm not starting a joke). In recent years, we have lost Russian tourism as a result of the conflict with Ukraine and the European sanctions that have been imposed. Barcelona, but also mainly the Costa Daurada, were the main destinations for quality tourism with high purchasing power.
Secondly, American tourism has decreased this summer due to a currency exchange effect. With a weak dollar, it's worthwhile for us to visit the United States, but for them, visiting our country is 15% more expensive than a year ago, and added to the inflation they suffer, their leisure resources are diminishing. However, American tourists are the biggest spenders per day when they visit us.
So, airlines are offering package tours with deep discounts to offset the drop in demand. Finally, the overcrowding of coastal areas also reduces demand for quality tourism.
It seems paradoxical, but the Balearic Islands, filled with tourists from the north, are precisely a hindrance to this tourism. In this case, there's no currency exchange, but there is the opportunity to find destinations ready for tourism in southeastern Europe with luxury conditions similar to ours and at a lower price.
The message is clear and worrying: the number of tourists continues to increase, while quality tourism is declining.
