And the rights of the students?

The week begins under the sign of good news, apparently, which is the peace agreement between the United States and Iran. I say "apparently" because it is an announced but not signed agreement, and on top of that it is threatened by a friend of Trump, Netanyahu, who says he will not withdraw from southern Lebanon. Of all the times it seemed the war was coming to an end, this is the most plausible, but what do you want me to tell you, at this point, about the reliability of Trump and an Israeli prime minister who is running forward to save his skin by killing thousands of people in Gaza and Lebanon?

Here, once the incense of the papal visit has faded, the problems continue to exist (like Monterroso's dinosaur story). This is the case of the teachers' protest, who yesterday demonstrated in Barcelona for the last time this academic year, in which they have carried out a total of 25 strikes. At the end of the demonstration, union leaders spoke of using the summer to negotiate, but it is not clear what to negotiate, because the agreement was initially signed by the unions and, therefore, do not rule out that in September the course will begin with the same bad mood with which it is ending.

What is the Government doing? In an attempt to seek expert opinions, counselor Esther Niubó had lunch last week with four former education counselors: Ernest Maragall, Marta Cid, Joan Manuel del Pozo and Irene Rigau. Others excused their presence. From the lunch came the idea that everyone is very aware of the problem but not so much of the solution, and, therefore, a feeling of impotence remained. Because, furthermore, the teachers' protest has overwhelmed the unions themselves, and now they do not rule out that the teachers' discontent, added to the doctors' discontent or what the rising cost of housing causes, could end up suggesting the possibility of a general strike, in a clear message of ungovernability of the country.

And this is where we will have to start talking about the rights of students, the right to go to school and receive education, which has already been significantly disrupted this academic year. Many of the students who are currently in the school system have already gone through the interruptions of covid-19. Mr. President, get a move on. And Esquerra and Comuns, understand that you cannot always simultaneously support the Government and the demonstrations against it.
