Without respite from showers and thunderstorms and no trace of the anticyclone
The next most extensive spell of showers could coincide with the weekend
BarcelonaSun and calm have prevailed in most of the territory this Wednesday, as afternoon showers have lost extent and have concentrated in the regions of Girona, the Pyrenees, the Ports and in parts of the Valencian Country and Mallorca. We remain immersed in a dynamic of instability, with cold air at altitude and with the anticyclone far from our home, which will keep meteorological movement and temperatures in check for quite a few days. In fact, showers and storms will regain ground in the coming days. They will fall very irregularly, and not everywhere by any means. This Thursday they will mainly affect the Valencian Country and the weekend may start with the arrival of a humid arm driven by a low pressure to the west of the Peninsula that would cause a wave of rain from south to north across the country. A situation that we will have to specify.
Thursday: very irregular afternoon showers
This Thursday we will wake up again with considerable calm and a lot of coolness or cold. Despite the early sun in many places, cloud intervals will increase rapidly from south to north. From mid-morning, but especially at midday and during the afternoon, showers and thunderstorms will gain ground again. They will fall very irregularly, especially in parts of the pre-coastal areas, the interior, the Ports, the Pyrenees and the Pre-Pyrenees, with very changeable or sometimes heavy skies. Meteocat has activated the alert for intense rain in some counties in the north of the country.
Attention to the Valencian Country and the Balearic Islands, as showers and storms will be more widespread and can fall with great intensity. Some downpours may locally leave more than 20 or 30 l/m² in just half an hour, without ruling out some hail or isolated hailstorm. Aemet has activated the alert for intense rain in most of the regions of both territories.
All this with temperatures that will undergo few changes. Minimums may rise slightly, although they will remain cold overall. Maximums will remain similar, with most values between 17 °C and 23 °C, lower in mountainous areas.
Possible rain on the weekend
Friday will continue to be variable, with afternoon showers more likely in mountainous areas. However, the effects of an Atlantic storm could cause a general spell of rain from south to north by Saturday, locally with some intense storms. A situation that is still a bit uncertain and will need to be further specified. Nevertheless, it seems the weekend will end a little more calmly.
