A week of unsettled weather with the passage of new frontal systems

Strong westerly winds and new snowfall in the Pyrenees of Lleida

BarcelonaAs a grand finale to this weekend, we highlight the passage of a line of storms. The remnants of cold air from Saturday's low-pressure system and the approach of a new front have generated powerful convective clouds. Up to 7 pm, 7 liters per square meter of rain had accumulated.2 in the city of Barcelona (university area), 5 l/m2 in Tàrrega, 3 l/m2 in Ódena and 2 l/m2 in Castellbisbal. The storm was accompanied by hail and strong gusts of wind (75 km/h in the port of Barcelona).

And during this week we will see the passage of several frontal systems associated with an active Atlantic low-pressure system, named MariluThis powerful weather system will bring us a few busy days with changeable weather. Snow will return to the Pyrenees, although at higher elevations, and westerly and mistral winds will sweep across the region, especially the higher peaks of the Pyrenees, the pre-coastal areas, and the Tarragona region.

Monday: clear morning, westerly wind and snow in the Pyrenees of Lleida

Today, Monday, we'll start the day with sunshine and a westerly wind, with moderate to strong gusts in the central and southern pre-coastal areas, the Camp de Tarragona region, and the higher elevations of the Pyrenees. Temperatures will rise slightly, especially along the coast, with highs around 16°C. Snowfall will continue throughout the early morning and morning hours. In fact, Meteocat maintains a warning for accumulations of up to 10 cm above 900 m, particularly in the Lleida Pyrenees.

With a windy day and sunshine in the rest of the country, the weather will change again in the afternoon, as a new front approaches, bringing renewed snowfall to the Pyrenees in Lleida. More showers are also expected in western areas, the Pre-Pyrenees, and nearby regions. The snow level will hover around 800 meters in the morning and rise to 1,800 meters in the afternoon.

Beware of avalanche riskUntil Monday, the avalanche danger It's rated 4 (out of 5) across much of the Pyrenees. Conditions are critical and dangerous in uncontrolled areas, and any off-piste skiing or snowshoeing requires extreme caution and experience.

A busy week with new fronts

Models indicate that the weather will remain very changeable and unsettled this week due to the passage of new Atlantic fronts. The most challenging day will be Tuesday, with a more active front bringing rain across the region. The day will be characterized by cloud cover and snow showers, heaviest on the southern slopes of the Pyrenees. Rain may spread to other areas from the afternoon onwards. It will generally be light, although locally moderate in the Pyrenees and western Pre-Pyrenees. The snow level will be around 1,800 meters during the morning and will gradually descend throughout the afternoon, settling at around 1,200 meters in the Pyrenees and western Pre-Pyrenees, and around 1,400 meters in the rest of the northern third of the region.
