BarcelonaThe calm of the last few days is running out. Today will still be relatively calm, but cloudy periods will continue throughout the day, with a more changeable sky. The first showers will arrive inland in the Valencian Country in the afternoon, and some showers will appear in Tarragona and the Pre-Pyrenees at night. Very irregular but locally intense showers will fall tomorrow, Thursday, in some Catalan regions, while heavy and persistent rain could occur between Valencia and Alicante and in the Pitiusas. These will be the effects of the DANA. Alice, the first to be named by the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet). The agency has already issued a special warning for a storm that will last until the weekend throughout our Mediterranean region, especially in the southeast of the peninsula and the Balearic Islands. Catalonia will be less affected by the storm, but the effects of the DANA will also be felt. It could rain heavily on Saturday along the Ebro River.

Wednesday: small changes

The weather will remain calm this Wednesday, but the first changes in the weather will soon be arriving. Throughout the day, we will notice an increase in cloud cover in some regions, especially along the coast, the pre-coast, and central Catalonia. Minor nuances and more changeable skies amid a calm environment. No rain is expected, although the first showers could fall in the south of the country later in the morning. In addition, some showers will appear inland in the Valencian Community starting in the afternoon, with local intensity. In the morning, there will also be fog and low clouds in the inland plains and valleys and along stretches of the coast.

Regarding temperatures, minimum temperatures will be higher, with more moderate coolness in the early hours. However, maximum temperatures will remain similar, slightly higher in the Ebro and lower in the Pyrenees. Many temperatures are between 23 and 27 degrees Celsius, but they will rise again, especially inland from the Ebro, where, as happened yesterday, temperatures could reach 29 or 30 degrees Celsius.

Time change starting Thursday

The arrival of the DANA and the arrival of moisture-laden maritime winds will cause a significant change in the weather starting Thursday. In Catalonia, there will be more clouds and fairly irregular showers, mainly affecting the coast and pre-coastline of Barcelona and Camp de Tarragona. They may also appear in the afternoon in the rest of the pre-coastline, in central Catalonia, in the eastern Pyrenees, and in the Pre-Pyrenees. Locally, some thunderstorms may be strong.

On Thursday, the heaviest rainfall will fall between the regions of Valencia and Alicante, as well as the Pitiusas. And the maps indicate that during the second part of the week, the storm will fully affect the Valencian Community and the Balearic Islands, possibly reaching the Ebro River on Saturday. Accumulated amounts throughout the episode could be significant, with some downpours and the risk of rivers and streams swollen. Meteocat has already activated the first alerts for locally heavy rain in Catalonia, and Aemet has issued yellow and orange alerts for the Valencian Community and the Balearic Islands.

However, much of Catalonia will be less affected by this situation, with a calm Friday and strong winds from the gale along the coast, where the maritime situation will be very unstable. Temperatures will drop, and instability could increase along the coast and pre-coast over the weekend.
