BarcelonaThis afternoon, showers and thunderstorms will be repeated, with very irregular patterns, in various parts of the country, but they could be severe locally. Civil Protection has reactivated the Inuncat plan alert for another day, and Meteocat has active warnings for heavy rain in more than 25 regions. The most affected regions will be Girona, Central Catalonia, the coast, and the pre-coast. The showers will be very irregular, but some will fall heavily and could leave local downpours accumulating more than 20 l/m² in just half an hour. Therefore, Meteocat maintains alerts for heavy rain in more than 20 regions.

The showers of the last few hours have been fairly localized, but have left some small amounts of rain, especially in parts of the coast and the Pre-Pyrenees. Between yesterday and early this morning, the most notable rainfall was 49 l/m² in El Vendrell (Baix Penedès), 33 of them in just half an hour. Also notable were 35 l/m² in the port of Barcelona, 30 l/m² in Torredembarra (Tarragonès) and Montesquiu (Osona), and 24 l/m² in La Quar (Berguedà). However, they were very localized, and only a few kilometers away, there was little rain.

Friday: another unsafe day

The weather will remain unsettled today, with very irregular showers and thunderstorms in some areas of the country. Showers will return from midday through the afternoon in coastal and pre-coastal areas, central Catalonia, the Pyrenees and eastern Pre-Pyrenees, and in the Girona region. Some storms will be strong again, but the rain will be very irregular and far from everywhere. This irregularity makes it very difficult to determine exactly which municipalities will experience rain and which will not.

Forecast map for this Friday afternoon.

Scattered and locally intense afternoon showers will also occur in parts of the Balearic Islands and inland parts of the Valencian Community. All this with temperatures remaining similar and, therefore, moderate and fairly normal for the time of year. Moderately cool at night and in the early morning, with many highs of 18°C to 23°C.

The weekend will end with a front

On Saturday, the weather will be calmer in most regions, although it will not clear up. There will be some cloudy periods with variable skies, with more sunshine in the Lleida region and surrounding areas. However, there will still be a risk of some localized showers along coastal stretches and along the Ebro River, as well as some afternoon showers in the northeast inland and along the pre-coastal area. All of this will be limited during an overall quite productive day.

However, a new change in the weather will approach on Sunday. Throughout the day, the skies will remain variable, and some scattered showers may fall in coastal and pre-coastal areas. This will be a prelude to the arrival of an Atlantic front between dusk and Monday. The lightest rainfall will reach our country, as the front will weaken as it crosses the Peninsula, but some scattered showers will resume. The Pyrenees and the Lleida Pre-Pyrenees are the areas most likely to rain. All this with temperatures that will remain relatively unchanged overall.
