The rainstorm gives no respite: alert especially in the Ebro, Castellón and Tarragona

In the Terres de l'Ebre, 200 l/m² have already been locally exceeded in the last few hours

02/10/2026 - 07:58 h.

The rainstorm affecting the Terres de l'Ebre since yesterday has already left more than 200 l/m² in some cases, as is the case in Santa Bàrbara (Montsià). Also noteworthy are the 138 l/m² in Alcanar. A lot of water has fallen in a few hours, often with torrential intensity, which has caused the sudden rise of rivers, streams, and ravines, and above all, flooding in these areas. In L'Ametlla de Mar (Baix Ebre), 108 l/m² have also been exceeded. And pay attention because the rain will intensify and continue falling in the same area during this Friday morning, even extending towards the Camp de Tarragona, where new downpours may occur. It has also rained heavily in many regions of Castellón and Valencia, where the episode has already left many records above 150 l/m². The Meteocat maintains warnings in the south of the country for intense rain that could leave more than 40 l/m² in just half an hour, or more than 90 l/m² in three hours. Also for accumulations of more than 200 l/m² in 24 hours. The alert is red in the Ebre and Castellón.

Friday: looking to the south

The rains will continue for a large part in the Terres de l'Ebre and in Castelló. They will fall persistently and with torrential downpours, which may leave local accumulations of more than 200 or 300 l/m² throughout the episode. In the morning and at noon, the rains and downpours will also reach the Camp de Tarragona. Locally intense but more scattered showers will also fall in the rest of the Valencian Country, and between the Pityusic Islands and the west of Mallorca.

On the other hand, in the rest of Catalonia, no significant rain is expected. The sky will be between variable and partly cloudy, with more abundant clearings in the northeast. Some weak and scattered showers will fall throughout the day, especially in the southern and western halves, and in the afternoon, irregular showers will recur with some local thunderstorms in the Pyrenees and Pre-Pyrenees, especially in the western part. Outside the south, little rain will fall, and by no means in all regions.

Regarding temperatures, it will be a bit cooler early in the morning. The maximums will be similar across much of Catalonia, but they will drop in the Pyrenees and especially in the Ebro area and the Valencian Community. The highest temperatures will range between 23 and 28 ºC. Northeasterly and easterly winds along the entire coast.

Uncertainty over the weekend

Looking ahead to the weekend, the forecast still has a high degree of uncertainty. The weather will remain very unstable, as the maritime flow driven by an anticyclone located further north will persist, while cold air will remain at high altitudes. Meteorological models disagree on the distribution of the rain.

Some maps indicate that it could rain more persistently on the Catalan coast and in the northeast of the country, while others place the heavy rain between the Valencian Community and the Balearic Islands. All of this will have to be confirmed. What is clear is that the instability will remain marked throughout our Mediterranean area, confirming the forecasts that indicated a rainy month of October in our region. Temperatures will continue to drop further.
