The weather

The weather isn't entirely clear today, on the eve of a rather chilly Chestnut Festival.

Temperatures will gradually rise until they peak around All Saints' Day.

The light rain on Wednesday will not continue today, Thursday, with still quite a few cloudy periods and only the remnants of a few showers or localized drizzles. The weather is less cold early in the morning, and temperatures will rise somewhat more by midday, especially in the north of the country. Over the next few days, we will remain under the influence of Atlantic fronts, with relatively calm weather and little rain in sight. Therefore, the Castañada (Chestnut Festival) will be uneventful. But above all, we will notice a clear rise in temperatures, with a warm peak on All Saints' Day.

The front that crossed us this Wednesday brought a lot of cloud cover and scattered, light showers to most regions, which lasted until the early hours of this morning. Rainfall was generally light, with many areas receiving between 1 and 5 liters per square meter, and practically no rain at all in the Alt Empordà region. In contrast, in Ponent and other areas of the western half of the region, between 5 and 10 l/m² have fallen in the last few hours, and towards the southern slopes of the Pyrenees and the Pre-Pyrenees, rainfall has been heavier, with some areas registering over 10 or 20 l/m². The 25 l/m² accumulated at the 2,500 m elevation mark in Espot, in the Pallars Sobirà region, is particularly noteworthy.

Thursday: more clouds than rain

Cloudy periods will still be present, although they will be interspersed with sunny spells. There will also be a lot of fog in the morning, with generally very high humidity. But practically no rain is expected. Throughout the day, some light and isolated drizzle or spray is possible between the coast and pre-coastal areas of Barcelona and Tarragona. It will be minimal, if any. The morning fog may also produce light drizzle. But generally, today will not be a rainy day. The Tramontana wind will blow only during the morning in the Empordà region, and the Mistral in the south. Showers will be more prevalent in the Balearic Islands, especially between the morning and early afternoon, with some locally intense thunderstorms. Some showers are also expected around Cabo de la Nau and nearby areas of Alicante and southern Valencia.

All this with rising minimum temperatures, and even more moderate cold and cool conditions in the early hours. Maximum temperatures will rise in the Pyrenees and Pre-Pyrenees, remain similar in the rest of Catalonia, and fall in parts of the Balearic Islands and the Valencian Community.

Warm peak in sight

Friday and Saturday will be fairly calm, with sunshine combined with passing bands of thin, high clouds and no rain. Southerly winds will push temperatures higher, making it warmer at midday. Temperatures will peak on All Saints' Day (Saturday), with many reaching highs of 21 to 26 °C. Therefore, the night of the Castañada (Chestnut Festival) will be calm and moderately cool. However, a new Atlantic front will bring changes and a further drop in temperatures starting on Sunday. In the following days, we will see temperatures return to normal for this time of year, after the recent temperature rollercoaster.
