BarcelonaThe weekend has been dominated by weather that has progressively destabilized, going from the mildness and fair conditions of Saturday morning to the downpours and cool atmosphere of this Sunday. The DANA Dana and the arrival of humid maritime winds have caused precipitation that, in some cases, has exceeded 200 mm on the peninsular Mediterranean coast (you will find more data at the end of this information). The weather will remain unsettled on Monday, with widespread rain that will once again be heavy in some places, such as a good part of Catalonia, where some monthly rainfall records are already approaching 400 mm.

Weather forecast for this Monday morning.

Therefore, danger warnings for rainfall intensity and accumulation remain in place, in addition to warnings for rough seas in some coastal stretches. In the case of rainfall accumulation, on Monday we will find practically the entire country under a yellow warning for accumulations of more than 100 mm in 24 hours. Regarding rainfall intensity, during the afternoon and night, several coastal and pre-coastal regions will be under an orange-level warning for rainfall in half an hour. In these regions, the threshold of 40 mm accumulated in just half an hour could be exceeded, a torrential intensity that we have already seen during the weekend.

Monday: more rain

The week will begin with weather that is still very unstable and with locally intense precipitation that will advance from the sea towards land, with humid maritime winds that will help to maintain this situation of unsettled weather. The rain will be locally intense in parts of the coast and the pre-coastal area, but also in some inland regions, with storms and new downpours in areas that have already received a lot of water since the beginning of the month. This situation will occur during the afternoon and evening, since during the morning there will still be quite a bit of calm. The minimum temperature will drop a little more, but the maximum will remain stable and the environment will be cool at midday.

Weather forecast for this Monday afternoon.

Attention to the Valencian Community and the Balearic Islands, where rainfall may still be heavy and abundant, with a risk of torrential downpours and significant accumulations. Aemet maintains a red alert active on the southern coast of Valencia and in the north of Alicante for 24-hour accumulations of between 200 and 300 mm until early Monday morning. There are also alerts activated for rainfall intensity that will affect the entire coast of the Valencian Community and the Balearic Islands.

Tuesday: the weather stabilizes

The meteorological situation will improve as the hours pass, although on Monday morning there will still be locally intense showers concentrated in the northern and eastern half of the country. Even so, clearings will gain ground from west to east and during the afternoon there will be plenty of sunny periods, especially in Ponent and the far south. The maximum temperature will recover thanks to this reappearance of the sun, but the atmosphere will still be autumnal.

Assessment of a new episode of downpours

The rain began to fall in parts of the northeast during Saturday afternoon, and as the hours passed it spread to more areas, always more intense on the coast and pre-coastal areas. In some places, such as the port of Barcelona, Sant Pere de Ribes (Garraf), Cabrils (Maresme), or Montesquiu (Osona), more than 75 mm have been exceeded between Saturday and Sunday. In fact, in Cabrils and Sant Pere de Ribes, more than 60 mm fell in just thirty minutes, an exceptional precipitation intensity for the country. In the case of Cabrils, the 37.8 mm that fell in 10 minutes is a new rainfall record for this time period in Catalonia.

Also noteworthy are the downpours that have affected parts of the Balearic Islands and the Valencian Community. In the case of the Islands, this Sunday the 122.8 mm in Formentera and the 121.3 mm at Ibiza airport stand out. In the case of the Valencian Community, where the rain has been more intense and abundant, more than 200 mm have been exceeded in towns such as Gandia, Benirredrà, Barx, or Rafelcofer, all of them in the La Safor region.
