Temperatures have once again been very high at the start of this weekend, which for some is also the start of a long weekend, taking advantage of the fact that Monday is a local holiday. This Saturday saw the peak of the warmer months inland and the southern half of the country, but heading into Sunday, the mercury will drop almost everywhere, and periods of harmless cloud cover will appear. All this in anticipation of more intense and widespread warmth next week.

Forecast map for this Sunday.

Sunday: less heat and some low clouds

The weather will undergo minor changes on Sunday. Some cold air will enter at altitude, and the north wind will strengthen across the Empordà region, where the sea conditions will be more turbulent, with areas of strong swell that will hamper swimmers. All of this will be enough to lower temperatures by between 1 and 3 degrees at most, especially in the pre-coastal region and in Camp de Tarragona. It will continue to be warm, and in some places the drop will not be noticeable, but temperatures will no longer reach 35°C anywhere. Sunshine will dominate, but afternoon clouds in mountainous areas may leave some light, very local showers, especially in the eastern Pyrenees and nearby areas, and low clouds will appear in the western and southern half of the Pyrenees.

Midsummer heat next week

Monday—a holiday for many—will continue to be sunny and temperatures will rise again, but it will be mainly from Tuesday onward that the peak of the African warm air bubble will arrive and temperatures will soar. The atmosphere will be midsummer, more typical of July than early June, with highs that could exceed 36°C or 37°C in the West Bank and inland from the Ebro River by midweek.

Tropical nights will also gain ground, with marked muggy conditions along the coast. All this will be relatively calm, with more dust in the air clouding the sky. A few showers are possible midweek, accompanied by mud, but they will remain highly concentrated in the northern half of the country.
