The storms and the cooling will return in the middle of the week
Wednesday will cross a front that will cause notable changes in the weather
BarcelonaThe week has started very calmly and with a rise in heat, although without major extremes. A full summer atmosphere with temperatures clearly above average, which this Monday pushed the mercury up to 37 °C in Vinebre (Ribera d'Ebre) or 36 °C in parts of the northeast, such as Girona city. Tuesday will maintain the same tone of radiant sun and heat, even with a few more degrees in some regions. But all this will be transitory, as on Wednesday a cold front will cross us that will cause a round of showers and thunderstorms in several regions, and a new and clear cooling with the arrival of the north wind. A roller coaster of thermometers that will remind us that autumn is approaching.
Tuesday: sun and summer heat
We will wake up again this Tuesday with a cool morning in general, and more mildness on the coast, where some tropical minimums will be repeated only in some areas, especially in the city of Barcelona due to the urban heat island effect. The sun and calm will dominate everywhere without exceptions throughout the day, only with some local and harmless cloudiness in the afternoon in the Pyrenees.
The maximums will remain similar or rise a little more, although in the northeast they may start to drop. Even so, the intense and summery heat will be maintained, with many values from 29 to 34 °C, but between 35 and 37 °C in Ponent and the Ebro valley, without ruling out locally some higher value in these sectors.
Weather change on Wednesday
The passage of a cold front will cause a change in the weather on Wednesday. Intervals of clouds will increase throughout the day, and from mid-morning onwards and for the rest of the day, showers and thunderstorms will become more widespread. They will mainly affect any point in the Girona and Barcelona regions, locally with strong intensity and accompanied by hail or graupel. Meteocat has already issued the first warnings in these areas for heavy rain.
It will also rain in other areas of the Pyrenees and the Pre-Pyrenees, and from the afternoon or evening onwards, showers will also reach some areas in the south of Catalonia, but especially in the Valencian Community and the Balearic Islands.
A change in weather that will reactivate the north wind at both ends of the country, and that will open the doors to a new and clear cooling. Therefore, thermometers will drop again, with less warm days from then on, and very cool nights, or even cold in mountain areas.
