The new heat wave will begin this weekend
Temperatures will skyrocket especially from Sunday and the peak will be experienced next week
BarcelonaWe continue to be very attentive to the evolution of the serious fire in Baix Empordà, which is burning out of control, fueled by the heated tramuntana wind. The wind will lose intensity, but it will remain. Consult here the forecast evolution of the meteorological conditions in the area. All this on a very warm Friday that has left us with many maximums of 32°C to 37°C, but even more inland in the Ebre region, where the almost 39°C maximum in Benissanet (Ribera d'Ebre) stands out. A weekend is starting that will kick off the second heatwave of the summer. The mercury will soar especially from Sunday, when this episode will officially begin and will last until the middle of next week. In fact, Meteocat has already activated the first alerts on Sunday for this new heatwave, which will last at least until Wednesday.
Therefore, we will have several consecutive days with many highs between 35°C and 40°C, higher in Ponent and the Ebro valley, marked sultriness on the coast, and sleepless nights that will once again become widespread. The hottest days will be Monday and Tuesday and, although from the middle of the week the thermometers will drop, we will continue with values clearly above average at least until the middle of the month. The anticyclone and the puff of hot air from North Africa will affect us again fully, and will accompany us for quite a few days.
Saturday: midsummer heat
Temperatures will remain similar or rise a little more, especially in the north of the country, while they will drop slightly in the south. In any case, the full summer atmosphere will continue, with intense heat and many highs of 32°C to 37°C, locally higher in Ponent. The night will once again be tropical on the coast, and torrid lows can be repeated in Empordà due to the re-heated tramuntana. However, from the pre-coastal areas towards the interior, it will still be possible to sleep quite well.
All this with radiant sun and absolute calm without exceptions, as no afternoon showers are expected anywhere. The tramuntana will blow all day in Empordà, especially in the north of the sector, while the mestral will blow only in the morning in Ebre.
Sunday the heatwave begins
Temperatures will make a leap forward on Sunday, both day and night, and it will be the first official day of the heatwave. Maximums will range between 33°C and 38°C in many cases, but will approach 40°C in Ponent. On the coast, the feeling of stuffiness will also increase, with maximums of 30°C or more. A torrid day with sun and calm, and the first warnings for daytime heat on the Costa Brava.
WARNINGS
A heatwave that will reach its peak on Monday and Tuesday, with maximums of 40°C in various parts of the interior, but up to 42°C or 43°C in Ponent and the Ebro valley. On the coast, maximums will range between 30°C and 35°C, with very heavy stuffiness. Nights will also be very heavy and difficult to sleep, with generalized tropical minimums outside the Pyrenees and scorching on the coast. Although from Wednesday onwards the mercury will begin to fall slowly, there is no clear end to the extreme heat.
