BarcelonaThis week is marked by the passage of weathered Atlantic fronts, which are primarily bringing superheated westerly winds that are sending temperatures soaring. Warm middays are expected for the season, and the peak of Indian summer is expected between Wednesday and Thursday. Many highs will hover between 24 and 29°C, about five degrees above average. And there will be very little rain, following Monday's morning showers and downpours, which left up to 20 l/m² locally (you'll find all the data at the end of this report). Aside from a few showers in the Pyrenees, the west, and nearby areas, there will be no rain anytime soon, and there will be changeable skies. But all this will be short-lived, as a new change in the weather will arrive later in the week, potentially bringing precipitation and a fresher winter.

Forecast map for this Tuesday morning.

Tuesday: few changes

The calm that dominated the second half of Monday in much of the region will continue today, Tuesday. Sunshine will remain, combined with bands of high, thin clouds. During the early morning hours, there will be more cloudy spells in the west, south, and the Pyrenees, where some weak, scattered showers or squalls will break out. These showers will be fairly localized and fleeting, but few. Elsewhere, no rain is expected, with more sun than clouds, and in the afternoon, some local showers will recur in the Pyrenees and Alt Empordà.

Moderate westerly winds will continue, keeping temperatures high, with some rising temperatures. Many highs will range between 23 and 28°C, locally higher in the south, after a moderately cool morning. A light northerly wind will blow in the afternoon in Empordà.

Forecast map for this Tuesday afternoon.

Peak of Indian Summer

Between Wednesday and Thursday, the westerly wind will strengthen, which, along with a warmer climate, will further raise temperatures. Beware of the strong winds expected on Thursday, especially in the center and south of the country. Winds could exceed 60 or 70 km/h in the Barcelona area. Therefore, Meteocat has already issued a strong wind warning for several regions:

We're expecting two warmer days, especially along the coast and pre-coast, with many highs of 24 to 29°C. However, toward the Pyrenees and the Lleida Pre-Pyrenees, it will be cooler, with more cloud cover and some precipitation. Elsewhere, little rain is expected.

All of this will be short-lived, as new weather changes will arrive starting Friday. Temperatures will drop on Friday, and towards the weekend, rain could arrive in many places, along with a significant autumnal cool-down. This situation will have to be further clarified and confirmed.

Morning showers report

The Atlantic front that crossed us at the beginning of the week left irregular, short-lived showers in many regions between early Monday morning and early morning. Generally, they were light, but the most significant rain fell in coastal and pre-coastal areas between Barcelona and the southern Costa Brava, with some local records of up to 20 l/m². However, it obviously didn't rain everywhere, and the rain passed over many areas in the south of the country. These are the most notable records left by the front:

  • 21 l/m²: Pineda de Mar
  • 21 l/m²: Malgrat de Mar
  • 19 l/m²: Barcelona (Can Bruixa)
  • 18 l/m²: Barcelona (Clot)
  • 18 l/m²: Santa Susanna
  • 15 l/m²: Cardedeu
  • 13 l/m²: Sant Feliu de Guíxols
  • 11 l/m²: Tagamanent
