The weather

The Indian summer will peak in the coming days, but there is already a date for a clear refreshment.

The warm westerly wind will send temperatures soaring until Thursday, awaiting a change in the weather later this week.

BarcelonaWe've kicked off a week marked by the passage of weathered Atlantic fronts, which will bring mainly westerly winds that will send temperatures soaring. We expect very warm middays for the season, and the peak of Indian summer is expected between Wednesday and Thursday. Many highs will hover between 25 and 30°C, some five or more degrees above average. And there will be very little rain, after Monday's morning showers and downpours, which have left up to 20 l/m² locally (you'll find all the data at the end of this report). Apart from a few showers in the Pyrenees, the west, and nearby areas, rain is not expected anytime soon, and there will be changeable skies. All this will be short-lived, as a new change in the weather will arrive later in the week, which could bring precipitation and a fresh cooling of the weather.

Tuesday: few changes

The calm that dominated the second half of Monday across much of the country will continue into Tuesday. Sunshine will remain, combined with bands of high, thin clouds. During the early hours and morning, there will be more cloudy spells in the west and the Pyrenees, where some scattered, weak showers or drops will break out. Elsewhere, no rain is expected, with more sun than clouds, and in the afternoon, some local showers will recur in the northern third.

A moderate westerly wind will continue, keeping temperatures high, with some degrees rising. Many highs will range between 23 and 28°C, and the evening will be very cool. A slight northerly breeze will blow in the Empordà.

Peak of Indian Summer

Between Wednesday and Thursday, the westerly wind will strengthen, which, along with a warm zone, will further raise temperatures. We expect two very warm days, especially along the coast and the pre-coast, with many highs of 25 to 30°C. However, towards the Pyrenees and the Lleida Pre-Pyrenees, it will be cooler, with more cloudiness and some precipitation. Elsewhere, little rain is expected.

All of this will be short-lived, as new weather changes will arrive starting Friday. Temperatures will already drop on Friday, and widespread rain and a significant autumnal cool-down could arrive towards the weekend. This situation will have to be further clarified and confirmed.

Morning showers report

The Atlantic front that has crossed us in recent hours has left irregular, short-lived showers in many regions between early Monday morning and early Monday morning. Generally, there were few, but the most significant rainfall occurred in coastal and pre-coastal areas between Barcelona and the southern Costa Brava, with some localized rainfall reaching up to 20 l/m². However, it clearly hasn't rained everywhere, and the rain has passed over many areas in the south of the country. These are the most notable rainfalls left by the front:

  • 21 l/m²: Pineda de Mar
  • 19 l/m²: Barcelona (Can Bruixa)
  • 18 l/m²: Barcelona (Clot)
  • 18 l/m²: Santa Susanna
  • 15 l/m²: Cardedeu
  • 13 l/m²: Sant Feliu de Guíxols
  • 11 l/m²: Tagamanent
