The heatwave will increase in the coming days and will affect half of Europe

The mass of warm air coming from North Africa will intensify and temperatures will rise even further

BarcelonaWe have started the week with a very warm atmosphere again for the time of year everywhere. Maximums have exceeded 30°C in many cases, and 35°C towards the west and the Ebro valley. A heatwave that will not let up in the coming days, as it will remain and even intensify throughout the week. Towards the middle or end of the week, we could reach 39°C or 40°C in the hottest areas of the west of the country. As can be seen in the following map, temperatures at about 1,500 meters altitude will reach almost 25°C, a value more typical of the warmest days of the year.

This gust of very warm air from North Africa will affect half of Europe with extreme heat, and will bring more suspended dust. All this with new irregular afternoon showers in the Pyrenees, after this Monday the thunderstorms have fallen with gusto and with some local downpours in the north of the country.

Tuesday: new very hot day

Temperatures will rise a little more this Tuesday. The night will be mild in general, with tropical lows in coastal areas, especially in urban heat islands. As for the highs, most will again range between 30 °C and 35 °C, with marked mugginess along the coast. But towards the west and the Ebro valley, 36 °C or 37 °C will be reached again.

All this with radiant sun and calm in most regions, as well as the presence of African dust in suspension. In the Pyrenees, afternoon clouds will again develop, leaving some scattered showers and thunderstorms. They are not ruled out in the Pre-Pyrenees and in nearby areas of the west.

Peak of the heatwave in sight

During the week, the heat will remain very intense and more typical of the summer heatwave than mid-June. In fact, the gust of warm African air will intensify and push temperatures even higher in the middle and end of the week. This will cause many maximums to range between 32 °C and 37 °C in the middle and end of the week, but towards the west and the Ebro it will range between 37 °C and 39 °C.

An extreme heat that will also strongly hit parts of southern, central, and western Europe, with very high values for the time of year. Sun, calm, and suspended dust will be the norm in the sky over a large part of the country. Only afternoon showers will affect points in the Pyrenees practically every day.
