On the eve of a weekend with wind, snow in the Pyrenees and a wintry atmosphere
The weather will keep changing with a bit of everything.
BarcelonaThe unsettled and changeable weather of the last few hours and days offers no respite, and this variability will continue in the coming days. The passage of a front overnight brought more snow to the Pyrenees, some light showers to other parts of the northern half of the country, and strong winds, with gusts reaching up to 106 km/h on Puig Sesolles (1,600 m in Montseny), 99 km/h in El Perelló (Baix Ebre), and 9 km/h elsewhere. Today will be a calmer day, a lull in the weather, before showers arrive from the west tonight, sweeping across the country from west to east until early Saturday morning. The weekend will be wintry without extremes, with snow in the Pyrenees on Saturday and strong winds due to the passage of a front and the formation of a small Mediterranean low that will quickly dissipate. Sunday will be cloudy, but it looks like it will be a pleasant and less windy day. And next week we could start with more rain. A relentless weather pattern.
Friday: day of impasse
After the small front that crossed us last night, calm weather will prevail for most of today. The westerly wind will continue, with some strong gusts in the south during the morning, but it will weaken and become more moderate as the day progresses, even shifting to a southwesterly wind in the northeast. However, it will remain stronger in the Valencian Community and parts of the Balearic Islands.
Sunshine and calm conditions will be the norm, but cloud cover will increase again from the west during the afternoon, with the first showers in the Lleida and inland Ebro regions, moving eastward overnight. Temperatures will be higher, both minimum and maximum, with many values between 12 and 17°C in the middle of the day, even higher in the south. Therefore, more pleasant conditions are expected around midday.
Very changeable weekend
During the night, early morning, and first hours of Saturday, showers will cross from west to east and could fall almost anywhere. Throughout the day, sunshine will prevail in most areas, with snowfall on the northern slopes of the Pyrenees that may occasionally reach the southern slopes. The snow level will fluctuate between 900 and 1,200 meters, locally lower in the Lleida Pyrenees. In the afternoon, there will be cloud cover in the northeast, with a chance of some light and isolated showers. All of this will be accompanied by strong mistral and tramontana winds affecting the entire central and southern parts of the country, the Empordà region, and the higher elevations of the Pyrenees, with blizzard conditions. Conditions will be adverse in the high mountains. Meteocat has issued several alerts for Saturday for gusts exceeding 75 km/h in the central and southern parts of the country, the Empordà region, and the Ripollès region. All this with a drop in temperatures that will bring us a mild winter, with many temperatures between 8 and 13 °C.
Sunday will be a calmer day, with easing winds and variable skies but no rain. Only a few showers are possible in the Pyrenees of Lleida, and the snow level will fluctuate between 1,300 and 1,500 meters. Based on current weather maps, next week could begin with another round of precipitation. Therefore, weather fronts and dynamic conditions will continue to be a factor in the coming days.
