Let's wrap up warm: the week of the Castañada begins with the cold of late autumn
Starting Wednesday, the weather will be more unsettled and precipitation will reappear.
BarcelonaThe Castañada week begins with temperatures clearly below average. Monday morning brings a chilly, late-autumn weather, so it's time to bundle up before heading out. Much of the inland area is below 5°C with some light frost. There are frosts in the Pyrenean valleys and Pre-Pyrenees, with temperatures ranging from 5°C to 10°C on the pre-coastal and 8°C to 13°C on the coast, locally lower on the Costa Brava. Maximum temperatures will also be low for the time of year, although they will rise slightly. A pleasant day with sunshine, calm weather, and a northerly wind at the extremes, which will decrease. The next change in weather will come on Wednesday, with the passage of a front that will bring the reappearance of precipitation.
Monday: calm and full autumn atmosphere
After the morning's cold, maximum temperatures will be similar to yesterday's or slightly higher, with a more pronounced rise in the Pyrenees. The atmosphere will be cool to mild, but with values remaining below average. Most highs will hover between 15 and 20°C. All this amid once again more stable and calm weather. Monday will be sunny almost everywhere with some low clouds, especially in the northeast and central parts of the country during the morning. In fact, some minor showers could occur in this area. The northerly wind will remain at extreme temperatures, but will ease after a windy Sunday in the Empordà region and the south of the country.
Tuesday: arrival of cloudy intervals
The weather will remain very stable on Tuesday, although we will already notice the midweek change in the weather with the arrival of bands of high clouds that will cloud the sky and move from west to east. Temperatures will rise, both day and night, and the increase in temperature will be especially evident in the Pyrenees, where the cold had reached its lowest point this weekend.
More precipitation from Wednesday onwards
Rain will reappear across the board starting Wednesday, although the intensity and extent remain to be seen. For now, weather models indicate a new round of minor precipitation due to the passage of a front, but which could affect virtually every region. This is good news for maintaining the good water reserves in reservoirs, which in the case of inland basins are above 73%.
Weekend Rainfall Assessment
The light rain that began on Saturday continued to affect the entire country until Sunday morning, although rainfall was relatively low. On Sunday, the most notable figures were 10.2 l/m² in Torroella de Montgrí (Baix Empordà), 10.1 l/m² in Montmell (Baix Penedès), and 8.7 l/m² in Girona. Saturday's peaks were similar, with 12.6 l/m² in Granadella, in Les Garrigues, and 12.3 l/m² in Prades, in Baix Camp.
