Summer says goodbye with few signs of autumn

We have started the week with a heat spike that has made this Monday's atmosphere feel fully summery. Thermometers climbed up to 35 ºC in municipalities in the northeast, such as Girona, Roses, Cabanes, or Espolla. Temperatures also reached or exceeded 34 ºC in other areas, such as the regions of Tarragona, while in the interior of the Ebre they exceeded 35 ºC. Notable is the nearly 37 ºC reached in Aldover, in Baix Ebre, the highest value today. These values are not at all typical for the dates and will continue this Tuesday, although the mercury will drop a little. It will be the last official day of summer, as astronomical autumn will officially arrive on Wednesday at dawn.

We will change seasons, but not the weather, as midday temperatures will continue to be too warm for this time of year throughout the week. Only at night and in the early hours will we notice a chill, thanks to the fact that the days are getting shorter, which allows thermometers to drop for more hours at night. All in all, sun and calm, as we will continue under the effects of the anticyclone. No major changes are in sight.

Tuesday: new day of sun and heat

This Tuesday we will wake up again to a cool morning in general and more mildness in coastal areas. In the city of Barcelona, tropical minimums will be recorded again due to theheat island effect, as well as in some points in the north of Alt Empordà due to the re-warmed tramontane wind.

But for one more day we will have to dress in layers, as in the middle of the day the heat will be summery. Maximum temperatures will drop, especially in parts of the coast and pre-coast, after Monday's warm peak. But the warm environment will remain, with many values from 27 to 33 ºC. On the other hand, towards the West and the Ebro valley, many maximums of 33 to 36 ºC will be repeated.

Thus, there will be total calm and radiant sun, in a new day to take advantage of and with very few nuances in the sky. Only some local fog may appear early on in the interior, as well as some decorative brushstrokes of high and thin clouds. Mistral and tramontane winds, weak or moderate at dawn and in the morning in the Empordà and the Ebro.

Autumn will start with heat

The astronomical autumn will officially arrive on Wednesday at dawn, but the weather will remain more summery than autumnal. The nights will be cool, but the middays will remain quite warm for the rest of the week, with values above the average. The anticyclone will remain intractable, with sun and absolute calm, and without rain in sight.

No significant changes are expected at least until the beginning of next week, when we will enter the month of October. Long-term models indicate that October will be rainy, so it will remain to be seen when the long anticyclonic trend that will accompany us for several days will break.
