Showers and thunderstorms will gain ground in the coming days

BarcelonaThe weather has been quite calm this Tuesday, and even the afternoon showers have been less intense and extensive and have remained more concentrated in parts of the Pyrenees and Pre-Pyrenees. But bands of clouds and dust suspended from North Africa have increased from the south. Temperatures have dropped a little and 30 °C has no longer been reached in Ponent and in the south, but the atmosphere has remained very warm for the time of year. With a few days left until the end of the month, this April has been exceptionally warm, and we will see if it has left us any heat records. But the weather will change in the coming days. From Thursday and throughout the long May Day weekend, we will be under the effects of a cold air pocket that will increase instability. Showers and storms will gain ground and strength, and will affect many more regions, especially in the northern half.

Wednesday: variable and cloudy sky

The sky will be changeable or cloudy this Wednesday due to the presence of intervals of clouds and Saharan dust in suspension. Even so, very little rain is expected. Throughout the day, showers may fall in parts of the southern face of the Pyrenees and Pre-Pyrenees of Lleida, and also localized drizzles or showers will reach areas of Ponent and the south. Not much, but however little it rains, the water will be accompanied by mud. Scattered showers will also fall in the Valencian Country, especially in inland regions.

All this with similar temperatures, although the minimums may rise slightly, and the maximums drop a few degrees, especially in the south of the country. In short, we will continue with little morning cold, and warm weather in the middle of the day, with values above average. Many maximums of 23 to 28 °C are expected.

More unsettled weather in the coming days

Starting Thursday and in the following days, instability will increase due to the influence of a cold air pocket coming from the center of Europe. Therefore, showers and storms will gain ground, and not just in the afternoons. They will fall very irregularly, and will affect mainly points in the northern half, but showers of short duration or large drops may arrive, to a greater or lesser extent, in many other regions, also in the south.

Locally there may be some downpours accompanied by hail or stones, especially in the Pyrenees, pre-Pyrenees and in the northeastern interior of the country. A situation that still has a point of uncertainty, as a small movement of the cold air pocket can cause significant changes in the distribution of precipitation. In any case, the cold air at high altitude will clash with the heat accumulated in recent days and the humidity from the Mediterranean, which promises movement. We will continue to monitor this situation that will fully affect the long May Day weekend, when many people have plans.
