Rain respite and brief rebound of the heat to say goodbye to September
Temperatures will skyrocket for a few hours, awaiting more downpours in the coming days
BarcelonaYesterday's episode of storms and downpours mainly affected a large part of the coast and inland areas, but especially the Barcelona area and points along the Girona coast. In many cases, the intensity was torrential, which caused sudden rises in rivers and streams and numerous floods. The areas with the most rainfall were Alt Penedès, Garraf, Anoia, Baix Llobregat, Vallès Occidental, Barcelonès, Baix Empordà, and Gironès, with many records of 50 to 100 l/m² or locally more, many of which fell in just over an hour (you will find the most important data on the storm at the end of this information).
In contrast, today the rain will give a respite and there will only be some very local and anecdotal showers, with variable skies. What we will notice will be a clear rise in the thermometers after Tuesday's drop, with a transitory rebound in heat to say goodbye to the month of September. But from Thursday onwards, instability will increase again and temperatures will drop again.
Wednesday: more calm and heat
The weather will be much calmer this Wednesday, the last day of the month, as in general no rain is expected. However, the sky will be variable due to the presence of quite a few cloud intervals, and it will even be overcast in the western regions during the morning, where some local light rain may occur. On the other hand, towards the northeast there will be many more clearings. In the afternoon, some local and insignificant showers will break out in parts of the Pyrenees, the Pre-Pyrenees, the Tarragona pre-coastal area, the Ports and nearby zones. Not much, and in the vast majority of the territory it will not rain.
All this with temperatures that will be similar at first, with an atmosphere generally between cool and mild and new slightly tropical minimums in coastal stretches. As for the maximums, they will clearly rise after Tuesday's drop, with an increase that will be especially marked in parts of the interior and the northeast. Many values from 26 ºC to 31 ºC are expected. A short summer that will be transitory.
More showers in the coming days
The meteorological situation will become complicated again in the coming days, as instability will remain pronounced. Thursday and Friday will see a repetition of irregular downpours, especially in parts of the Pyrenees, the interior, and the south, as well as in the Valencian Community. Locally, they will be intense and may be accompanied by storms, which is why the Inuncat plan alert has been activated once again, and Meteocat has many alerts in effect for heavy rain.
Some meteorological models indicate that over the weekend a more extensive spell of rain could arrive, but this extreme is still very uncertain. Temperatures will drop again and, little by little, will normalize for the time of year, especially starting from the weekend. It seems that, now yes, autumn will finally impose itself completely over summer.
Flash flood summary
Tuesday's torrential downpours mainly affected the coast and pre-coastal areas of Barcelona and Girona, with many records of 50 to 100 l/m², locally more. Water that fell torrentially in just between one and three hours, causing floods and many problems. For example, at the Torroella de Montgrí (Baix Empordà) weather station, more than 100 l/m² fell in little more than an hour, or 54 in half an hour. Too much water in such a short time. In the rest of Catalonia it rained less, although also with locally heavy showers and storms, especially in other areas of the coast and the pre-coastal region.
