No new big calories are seen for the remainder of July.
Between the weekend and the beginning of next week, temperatures will drop and instability will increase.
BarcelonaThis Friday will remain calm and warm, but the mercury will drop a few degrees in the Lleida and northern regions, where it peaked yesterday. Between the weekend and the beginning of next week, more cold air will enter from above, bringing temperatures down and increasing instability slightly, with some showers possibly emerging from the Pyrenees. However, the current weather forecasts do not predict any significant or widespread rain or major heat waves. We are in the dog days, so it's time to sweat, but there will be no exceptional weather conditions for the remainder of July.
Yesterday, temperatures soared in the West, with very intense heat and highs of up to 39°C in the city of Lleida itself. Temperatures also stood out in inland Valencia, where temperatures exceeded 40°C. On the other hand, the Ebro River did not reach temperatures as high as those on Wednesday, and in the rest of Catalonia, the atmosphere was summer-like but far from extreme. Only in Gironès and Alt Empordà did temperatures locally exceed 36 or 37°C due to the warming southerly wind. In short, these were occasional, local heat spikes that will not continue in the coming days.
Friday: calm and midsummer heat
We woke up after another tropical night—minims above 20°C—on the coast and in many parts of the pre-coastal area, in the south, and in the Ponent region. In fact, to the west, lows rose compared to the previous morning. There were even repeated torrid lows—over 25°C—in some urban areas along the coast, mainly in downtown Barcelona neighborhoods like the Raval, due to the heat island. Nightlife was heavier and more muggy in these areas, and more pleasant elsewhere.
Today will be another sunny and calm day, although there are new low morning clouds on the coast and pre-coastal area of the southern half that may continue to appear throughout the day. Some high, thin cloud bands are also crossing. In the afternoon, clouds will gather in mountainous areas, leaving at most a few drops or scattered showers in the Pyrenees and western Pre-Pyrenees, initially light compared to yesterday.
Maximum temperatures will drop slightly inland and in the north of the country, especially in the West and northern Costa Brava. They will be slightly higher in the traditionally warmer areas.
Weekend with some changes
The weather will show signs of change in the coming days. Between the weekend and the beginning of next week, a deep low pressure area in the British Isles will bring us some cold air at altitude, and even the tail end of a front. This will cause temperatures to drop and increase instability.
Scattered showers could fall early Saturday morning in practically every location. The rest of the weekend will see repeated afternoon showers in the Pyrenees, the Pre-Pyrenees, and nearby areas. And perhaps between Monday and Wednesday, storms will reach more regions. An uncertain situation that we will have to continue to determine, but which would also mean even more bearable heat and temperatures returning to normal for the time of year. No heat waves or severe heat waves are expected for the remainder of July.
