Last showers and westerly wind at the gates of a brief Indian summer

The front will give way to a westerly wind, heated, which will cause the thermometer to rise.

BarcelonaWe'll end the weekend with more overcast weather, with the passage of a front that has already begun to drop the first drizzles in the west and will bring more widespread rain during the early hours of Monday, with the last showers in the morning. This gloomy weather will be short-lived because the meteorological dynamics will change radically with the westerly wind, which will clear the air and bring a rise in temperatures. In fact, the wind has been noticeable in recent hours, with gusts of up to 73 km/h, for example, in Puig Sesolles and Montseny, and 82 km/h in Portbou.

Throughout the week, low pressure systems will once again circulate across central Europe, with a more Atlantic-like dynamic that will bring rain to the west of the peninsula, but no active frontal systems will reach there. In any case, we will have days of many thin clouds and some showers in the Lleida Pyrenees. The sky will be changeable, and we'll experience a clear rise in temperatures. Between Wednesday and Thursday, we'll experience a brief summer with a fairly warm midday, with temperatures between 5 and 7 degrees above their normal range. This mild weather won't last long, as temperatures should return to normal by the end of the week.

Monday morning 20

Monday: showers early in the morning and westerly wind

The tail end of an Atlantic front will pass between dawn and Monday morning, bringing highly variable weather. Rain will affect much of the country in the early hours and will continue to fall throughout the morning with scattered, patchy, and light showers, most likely in the western third and central coast. The unstable weather will be short-lived because the passage of the front will bring a westerly wind that will sweep away the cloud cover and give way to clearer skies.

Monday afternoon 20

In the afternoon, westerly winds will prevail, and the sky will be very clear across much of the country, except for the southern Costa Brava and inland Girona, where showers may still occur, sometimes in the form of thunderstorms. A slight northerly wind will move north of Cap de Creus, and across the rest of the country, westerly and southwesterly winds will blow, raising temperatures. Highs are expected between 24°C and 26°C.

Summer between Tuesday and Thursday

Starting Tuesday, weather-beaten fronts will move in, potentially bringing showers to the Lleida Pyrenees. But the most notable event will be the rise in temperatures. A warm zone will hit us hard, bringing temperatures between 5 and 7 degrees above average. On Wednesday and, especially, Thursday, temperatures could reach nearly 30°C, as in the city of Tarragona, and exceed these levels inland in the Ebro. The Indian summer will end by the weekend, when a new Atlantic storm will channel a cooler air mass toward us, and temperatures will return to normal.

Balance of showers on Friday and Saturday

During the first part of the weekend, we kept an eye on the sky, as there were very irregular showers in parts of the coast, the pre-coast, and nearby areas, such as Central Catalonia and the northeastern interior. In some cases, between Friday and Saturday, more than 20 or 30 l/m² fell in a short period, but these were localized, and a few kilometers away, practically no rain fell. In Castelldefels, between 33 and 57 l/m² fell on Friday, in Gavà, 32 l/m², and in Castellar del Vallès, 31 l/m². Also notable were the 28 l/m² in Sant Climent de Llobregat, 28 l/m² in Caldes de Montbui, 26 l/m² in Cornudella de Montsant, 23 l/m² in Piera, and 23 l/m² in Piera. This heavy rainfall in a short period caused some local incidents, such as a vehicle (with no one inside) swept away by the suddenly rising Ripoll River.

On Saturday, new downpours fell suddenly in Barcelonès and Baix Llobregat, where 35 l/m accumulated in a short time.2 in El Prat de Llobregat.
