Morning sprinkles to start a week marked by a summer

The passage of a front this Monday will give way to a superheated westerly wind, which will raise the temperature.

BarcelonaThis Monday morning, we woke up to scattered showers in many regions, especially in the center and north of the country. All of this is the result of an Atlantic front that will quickly cross our path, but which could still leave some short-lived, irregular showers during the morning, especially between the Barcelona coast and pre-coastline and southern Girona. The rainiest period so far has been in the city of Barcelona, where a small amount of rain early in the morning has left between 12 and 20 l/m² in several neighborhoods. However, from midday onwards and throughout the afternoon, there will be significant clearings, and only a few isolated, weak showers will remain in the Pyrenees. A radical change in just a few hours will be the result of the westerly wind, which will clear the air and bring a rise in temperatures, with a warmer atmosphere in the middle of the day.

Throughout the week, low pressure areas will once again circulate across central Europe, following weeks of marked instability in the Mediterranean. This Atlantic dynamic will bring rain to the western peninsula, but in our region, the fronts will arrive worn out with little rain. In any case, we'll have days of many thin clouds and changeable skies, with some scattered showers, mainly in the Lleida Pyrenees. Above all, there will be a clear rise in temperatures due to warmer westerly winds, especially along the coast and pre-coast. Between Wednesday and Thursday, we'll experience the peak of this Indian summer, with many highs of 25 and 30°C. In short, temperatures will be between 5 and 7 degrees above what they should be. This bonanza won't last long, as the atmosphere is expected to return to autumnal conditions by the end of the week.

Monday: early showers and westerly wind

An Atlantic front will pass us Monday morning, bringing highly variable weather. Very erratic showers are expected, which have been falling since early morning. They will affect several regions, especially in the center and north of the country. The showers will be very erratic, short-lived, and light, although locally they may leave some more significant downpours. The heaviest rainfall is expected between the central coast and the southern Costa Brava. The unstable weather will be short-lived, as the passage of the front will bring a westerly wind that will clear away the cloud cover from midday through the afternoon.

In the afternoon, westerly winds will prevail, and the sky will be very clear across much of the country, except for the southern Costa Brava and inland Girona, where occasional showers may still occur. A slight tramontana wind will move north of Cap de Creus, and elsewhere, warm westerly and southwesterly winds will blow, pushing temperatures higher, especially along the coast and pre-coastline. Highs of between 23 and 26°C are expected.

Week marked by Indian summer

In the coming days, weathered Atlantic fronts will continue to cross, potentially bringing showers to the Lleida Pyrenees. But the most notable event will be the rise in temperatures. A warm zone will hit us hard, bringing temperatures between 5 and 7 degrees above average. On Wednesday and, especially, Thursday, temperatures could reach around 30°C in places such as the Costa Daurada and the Ebro. The Indian summer will end by the weekend, when a new Atlantic storm will channel a cooler air mass toward us, and temperatures will return to normal.
