Cooler weather and thunderstorms in the eastern half of the country
Warnings for heavy rain, strong wind gusts, and hailstorms
BarcelonaThe approach of a cold air trough at high altitude has generated significant atmospheric instability and has already contributed to a drop in temperature. The strong contrast between the cold air at high altitude and the warm Mediterranean mass generated powerful clouds and the storms discharged with force, with some downpours and violent phenomena, such as strong gusts of wind, hail and sleet. The most affected regions were the central coast, the pre-coast and the northeast, with violent phenomena in Anoia, Alt Penedès, Baix Llobregat and the two Vallesos. On alert for the change in weather in CataloniaAnd besides violent weather, what has been noticed is the thermal descent. In fact, during the weekend the temperature will drop more noticeably and will remain a little below what would be expected for these dates. This will translate into better rest during the nights and the disappearance of torrid and tropical nights on the coast, at least for a few days. Today, for example, in Barcelona they have already dropped to 22 ºC and in Vilanova i la Geltrú to 20 ºC.
The thunderstorms have already discharged with intensity, with some downpours and hailstorms (at the end of this information we will add more data).
Friday of uncertain weather and new storms
Early in the morning, many clear spells will appear, especially in Ponent and the Ebre region. As the day progresses, clouds will grow strongly, and at midday, storms will fall in the northeast of the territory. During the afternoon and evening, they will occur again in Camp de Tarragona and along the central coast. These showers will be accompanied by strong gusts of wind, hail, or stones. Accumulations in a few hours, for example, on the southern coast, in the Prelitoral area, or in Ponent, could exceed 60 l/m2. Sudden local floods in ravines and streams should be monitored, as well as in the Pyrenees, in the high mountains, where thunderstorms will also be violent. The maritime situation will be altered, with moderate or strong swell, for example, north of Cap de Begur.
Warnings for intense rain remain in effect:
Weekend with the last showers and a cooler atmosphere
The presence of a colder air mass will contribute to the thermal drop. In fact, during the weekend the thermometer will drop more noticeably and will be a little below what is expected for these dates. This will translate into better rest during the nights and the disappearance of torrid and tropical nights on the coast, at least for a few days. In the Pyrenees, for example, this cooling will be most noticeable and during the nights you will need to grab a jacket and a blanket (it seems unbelievable, but it will be like this!). In Ponent and Ebre, temperatures will no longer exceed 33°C and in the rest of the territory the thermometer will move between 26°C and 30°C. Saturday morning will be very cool in the Pyrenees and in some valleys it will drop to 10°C. On the coast, we will enjoy a pleasant 22°C.
