The atypical heat gives no respite in the last week of spring.
The thermometer will rise sharply again starting tomorrow in the West.
BarcelonaWe're starting a week that will once again be marked by intense, midsummer heat. In the final days of spring before the official arrival of the new season on Saturday, we'll once again experience very high temperatures for the season, more typical of the dog days. In fact, between Tuesday and Wednesday, the very warm air mass coming from North Africa will strengthen again, causing temperatures to rise further in several places, especially in the West. And we'll also arrive at the Sant Joan long weekend with a lot of heat. Yesterday, Sunday, the heat was especially intense on the island of Mallorca, with the 39.2°C reached at the University of Palma standing out, tying the record for heat for a month in June in 2019. We'll have to wait and see how the June season ends, as the atypical heat has been continuing steadily for many days. All of this with great calm, plenty of sunshine, and suspended dust. There's little chance of rain, except for some afternoon showers in mountainous areas that will be nothing like the severe storms that hit the northwest of the country over the weekend (you'll find a brief overview of the showers at the end of this report).
Monday: hot, muggy and quite calm
Monday morning will be sunny with only the possibility of a few thin clouds, as well as some low clouds along the coast, where the muggy conditions will be marked after another tropical night. In the afternoon, clouds will gather in the Pyrenees, the Pre-Pyrenees, and inland areas of the Girona region, with the possibility of isolated showers or local thunderstorms. Minor nuances in a calm environment. Temperatures will remain high and above average, but without extreme heat. Many highs will range from 27 to 33°C, but in the West, they will reach 35 or 36°C. Along the coast, the sea level will maintain many temperatures between 25 and 28°C, although the high humidity will make it feel sticky. The weather will be drier in the Empordà region, where the north wind will blow.
More heat for Tuesday
Models indicate a renewed approach of the warm air from North Africa, which on Tuesday will push the thermometer higher toward the West, the rest of the western half of the country, and higher elevations. Highs will once again reach or exceed 38°C in the Pla de Lleida region. On the coast, the salty weather will keep temperatures at around 28°C or 29°C, but with marked muggy conditions. This is unbridled heat in what has been an extraordinarily hot June.
In fact, it seems that toward the end of the week, temperatures will rise across the rest of the country, including the pre-coastal and coastal areas. Therefore, we will arrive at the Sant Joan long weekend with a summer-like atmosphere, and there is no clear end in sight. All of this will be fairly calm and sunny, with only a few afternoon showers in mountainous areas and nearby areas.
