Effects of Storm Claudia in Catalonia: suspended pulse, warm peak, wind and showers on the horizon

High temperatures for this time of year due to warm southerly winds, with a front expected on Friday.

BarcelonaTemperatures have risen sharply in the last few hours, both day and night. This morning the cold is much more moderate, with no frost outside of some valleys in the Pyrenees and the Pre-Pyrenees. The morning weather is even pleasant in some coastal areas, with temperatures of 16 to 18°C in several places. And today the mercury will climb even higher, with unseasonably warm conditions and highs reaching up to 24 or 25°C in the warmest areas. We will experience the peak of the Indian summer, and in general, we will be about four or five degrees above average. All of this is an indirect effect of the deep low-pressure system. ClaudiaLocated in the Atlantic, this system is pushing warm southerly winds, accompanied by suspended dust from North Africa, towards our country. In fact, the wind will blow strongly at higher elevations today. This low-pressure system will send a somewhat weakened front on Friday, but one that will still be active enough to bring back showers.

Thursday: warm atmosphere and suspended pulse

Temperatures will rise slightly further this Thursday, both day and night. The increase in minimum temperatures has been particularly noticeable, with much more moderate cold or cool weather in the early morning and no frost anywhere. We even woke up to temperatures above 10°C in some inland areas, although the temperature inversion persists, with colder temperatures at lower elevations than at higher elevations. Many minimum temperatures have ranged between 11 and 16°C along the coast and pre-coastal areas, locally higher in coastal stretches. Maximum temperatures will range between 19 and 24°C in most regions, with the possibility of reaching 25°C in the Ponent region and nearby areas. These temperatures are clearly above average.

All of this will be fairly calm, but with some initial changes. Low clouds will increase along the entire coast and pre-coastal areas, where the sky will become more variable. These clouds will also be present during the morning in other areas of the southern half and the western part of Catalonia, along with morning fog. A few isolated showers or scatter cannot be ruled out in northern Empordà and around Els Ports, especially in the afternoon, but overall, rain is not expected. Bands of high, thin clouds will continue to cross the region, while the southerly wind will strengthen and blow strongly at higher elevations, particularly in the Pyrenees. Meteocat has issued warnings for strong winds in this area for the coming days.

Sprayed from Friday

The storm Claudia An Atlantic front will arrive on Friday. It will be quite weakened after bringing significant rainfall to the western Iberian Peninsula, but it will still be enough to reignite the unsettled weather. Showers are expected and could affect practically every region, especially in the north and west. Rain is possible in the Pyrenees and the Pre-Pyrenees of Lleida in the morning, and from midday onwards the showers will spread from west to east. The southerly wind will strengthen further, with rough seas.

Temperatures will begin to drop inland and in the Pyrenees, but will remain very high along the coast and in parts of the pre-coastal area. The temperature decrease will be noticeable everywhere on Saturday, making it a day of relative calm with variable skies and little chance of rain. Between Saturday night and Sunday, a new front will bring renewed rainfall.
