Effects of Storm Claudia in Catalonia: warm afternoons, suspended dust, wind and showers on the horizon

High temperatures for this time of year due to warm southerly winds, with a front expected on Friday.

Temperatures have risen significantly this Wednesday, both day and night. The cold was more moderate in the early hours, with no frost outside of some valleys in the Pyrenees and the Pre-Pyrenees. By midday, the mercury had climbed above 23°C in parts of western Catalonia, the northeast, and the pre-coastal area of Barcelona. Temperatures will rise even further this Thursday, with warmer weather for this time of year. Generally, we will be about four or five degrees above average. All of this is due to the deep low-pressure system. ClaudiaLocated in the Atlantic, this system is pushing warm southerly winds, accompanied by suspended dust from North Africa, towards our country. This storm will send a somewhat weakened front on Friday, but one active enough to bring back showers.

All of this will be relatively calm, but some changes are beginning to arrive. Low clouds will increase along the entire coast and pre-coastal areas, where the sky will become more variable. These clouds will also be present during the morning in other areas of the southern half and the western part of the region, along with morning fog. A few isolated showers or scatters cannot be ruled out in northern Empordà and around Els Ports, but overall, no rain is expected. Bands of high, thin clouds will continue to cross the region, while the southerly wind will strengthen and blow strongly at higher elevations, especially in the Pyrenees. Meteocat has issued warnings for strong winds in this area for the coming days.
