Every day a lightning strike: showers and thunderstorms throughout the week

BarcelonaThe first full week of May has started off very busy. The passage of a line of instability with cold air aloft has caused showers and storms to gain extent and strength, and to affect many parts of the country. During this afternoon and early evening, these irregular precipitations will be maintained, especially in the pre-coastal areas, inland, and in the eastern Pyrenees and pre-Pyrenees, and between early evening and night they will move away towards the northeast. Locally, downpours with hail or sleet may occur, and weaker and more scattered showers will also fall in coastal areas. Meteocat maintains alerts activated for intense downpours that leave more than 20 l/m² in just half an hour in various regions, both today and tomorrow. Both on Tuesday and for much of the week, this typically spring situation will be repeated, which will make the saying that in May, every day a lightning strike, a good one. All this with temperatures under control.

Tuesday: new showers

This Tuesday, variability in the sky and marked instability will be maintained. In the morning it will hardly rain, but the first drops or local showers may appear in the northeast, in the western Pyrenees, and in Els Ports. Little to expect, awaiting a new afternoon with irregular showers and storms. They are expected mainly in parts of the Ebro, the pre-littoral, the northeastern interior, in Els Ports, and in the Pyrenees and pre-Pyrenees, especially in the eastern part. Again, some downpour accompanied by hail, stones, or gusts of wind may occur. In the late afternoon, some weakened showers will arrive in coastal areas.

Some showers and storms will also fall in regions of Castellón and on the island of Mallorca. All this with temperatures that will drop, both the minimums and the maximums. Mild to cool atmosphere, with many values from 17°C to 22 °C, but lower in mountainous areas. The snow line will move between 2,000 and 2,200 m in the Pyrenees.

Irregular downpours and storms every day

Instability will remain the order of the day, and throughout the week afternoon showers and thunderstorms will be repeated in some regions. They will be very irregular in nature and will not affect the whole country by a long shot. The most likely are expected on Wednesday in the Pyrenees, Pre-Pyrenees and the northeast. But from Thursday onwards, showers could gain ground again.

All this with temperatures that will be rising and falling, but which will be kept in check and far from the atypical heat we had during the month of April.
