Afternoon thunderstorms will extend beyond the Pyrenees and into Central Catalonia
Uncertain afternoons and showers that can also reach Ports and Ponent
BarcelonaWe are entering a typical spring dynamic, with calm mornings and uncertain afternoons. The presence of a bit of cold air at altitude causes diurnal cloudiness to grow in mountainous areas, and afternoon showers and thunderstorms are the protagonists, which, in fact, will increase between Sunday and Monday. Today they have already unloaded in parts of the Pyrenees, Pre-Pyrenees, and the Ports, with small amounts (Espot, at 2,500 m, 3 l/m2 or 0.5 l/m2 in Núria, at 2,000 m).
The weather will remain warm and there will be values that will once again approach 30 ºC in many inland regions. This Saturday they reached up to 29.8 ºC in Alcarràs or up to 29.4 ºC in Vinebre.
Sunday: thunderstorms will return to the Pyrenees, pre-Pyrenees and Central Catalonia
Sunday sunny morning, with some fog or low morning clouds in the Ebro Delta or on the central coast that will gradually dissipate, and the passage of harmless bands of high, thin clouds. However, instability will increase from midday and cloudiness will grow in mountainous areas. During the afternoon, showers or some thunderstorms are expected in parts of the Pyrenees, Pre-Pyrenees, northern Central Catalonia, and they are not ruled out in the Ports area, as well as in the interior of Castelló and Valencia. The showers may fall, locally, with some intensity and with hail. Towards the end of the day, a weak shower may fall in Ponent, in the evening.
Outside these areas, the meteorological situation will continue to be marked by calm, although bands of clouds will arrive during the afternoon from the cloud masses in the mountainous areas.
Temperatures will remain above average for this time of year, with no morning frosts (not even at high altitudes in the Pyrenees), and with lows ranging between 13 ºC and 15 ºC (in the Pyrenean valleys they will not drop below 7 ºC). The maximums will again be close to 30 ºC in Ponent and in the rest they will range between 25 ºC and 28 ºC. On the coast they will be more restrained, around 22 ºC.
Few changes next week
On Monday and Tuesday, afternoon showers and thunderstorms will repeat in mountainous and inland areas, and this afternoon instability will persist throughout the week. It is not ruled out that some showers will also reach the coast by mid-week. Temperatures will fluctuate, with a drop where it rains. However, values will remain above the usual average for this time of year.
