ValenciaThe Generalitat's Emergency Coordination Centre (CEE) has activated the red alert for high temperatures on the north and south coasts of Valencia, as well as on the north coast of Alicante. It has also activated the orange alert in the north and south interior of Valencia and in the interior and south coast of Alicante.

However, the CEE does not rule out that this episode of high temperatures will reach Castelló and extend until the last hours of Thursday, August 20. The hottest hours will be between 1:00 PM and 8:59 PM, with maximums of 42 degrees on the north coast of Alicante, 43 on the north coast of Valencia, and 44 on the south coast.

Restrictions and precautions

The autonomous secretary of Emergencies and Interior, Fernando Lasheras, warns of the prohibition of transit of people through fields, the suspension of works and tasks in forest areas, and the suspension of the festive-recreational use of fire in forest areas.

“It is also fundamental to act with the utmost responsibility and respect the generic prohibition of lighting any kind of fire in forest areas and in the forest influence zone (up to 500 meters) and the suspension of any type of authorization granted for sports circulation in forest areas,” remarked the autonomous secretary.

Likewise, due to this extraordinary meteorological situation, a series of additional restrictions are added, such as the prohibition of circulating on forest tracks and paths, with any type of vehicle, bicycle, or on foot, within the natural parks of Sierra d'*Espadà, Sierra Calderona, Xera-Sot de Xera, la Pobla de Sant Miquel, Túria, Falçs del Cabriol, forest area of the natural park of l'Albufera, Marjal de Pego-Oliva, Penyal d'Ifac, Sierra de Mariola, Font Vermella, el Montgó and Serra Gelada.

Closure of La Devesa

In the city of Valencia, CECOPAL met on August 18 to take measures, among which is the closure of La Devesa, in El Saler, until the 21st. The SideInfo system of the canons in El Saler has also been activated as a preventive measure due to the risk of fires.

Municipal cemeteries, street markets, and municipal swimming pools will also remain closed, as will the Serrans Towers, the Quart Towers, and Gulliver Park. Parks and gardens will remain open, subject to the westerly wind gusts that may occur.
