TarragonaThe penis of James I the Conqueror has not disintegrated. The king's member has been preserved for over 750 years by being mummified. And most importantly of all: it still contains some sperm. Lídia Obiols is a true Catalan, with an accent from the Girona region, and has become president of Catalonia. Assuming a great responsibility, she feels called to allow herself to be penetrated by the Conqueror's great penis in order to recover the purity of the nation and beget a new line of Catalan kings who will do what "the spineless presidents of the process" have failed to do. Obiols will try to save "a country where there are no longer any white people" and put an end to the barbarity. woke, led by immigrants, feminists, homosexuals, and leftists.

There are plays in squats that are less punk than The Jaume I affair, the satire that the company Al Cel Cia performed this weekend at the Sala Trono in Tarragona. Directed by Guillem Cuxart and performed by Laia Esdul, Arnau Fà and Paula Moles, The Jaume I affair It's madness, not for everyone. Nazis, racists, Islamophobes, priests who persecute children, and even a few barbs left for the Pujol family and Josep Lluís Núñez are all welcome here. There are also those for the sycophants who laugh at jokes on the far right and who always cozy up to those in power. "And here I am, dressed like this to come to a theater." hippie"," laments a spectator as she leaves the theater. But clearly, she wasn't representative of the nearly one hundred people who filled the Sala Trono this Saturday and applauded enthusiastically at every note played by Al Cel Cia.

The play is bawdy, but it's also fresh and funny. The actors perform their roles very well. The music, composed by Marc Sambola and performed by himself and Magí Castro, is a perfect accompaniment. Without the play, which lasts 90 minutes, it would feel far too long.

The Jaume I affair drink from the work King James the Conqueror by Serafín Pitarra, a playwright and satirical poet from the late 19th century. It is the result of the final degree project of Tarragona-born actor Arnau Fà at the Institut del Teatre. When he read Pitarra's book, he was scandalized, as he explained to ACN. "It has all the isms "It could have," he summarizes. "It's sexist, misogynistic, racist, homophobic, phallocentric, absolutely detestable." From there, he contacted Cuxart, whom he knew from the Institut del Teatre, to adapt and "update" the play. The play, "Jaume I's Penis," was performed last weekend and will be shown again this fall at the Maldà Theatre in Barcelona.
