So strong and so fragile
The other day I was reflecting on the strength and fragility of the human being, or rather, the human body. Because, even for a non-believer, it's undeniable that our anatomy is absolutely marvelous. You only have to stop for a moment and observe how we function to realize what a miracle it is to be alive. We automatically breathe, self-regulate, eliminate what harms us, our heart beats regularly, and our immune system fights for us. All of this without us having to be aware of it. It's a technology so advanced that no human machine can fully match it. And all of this happens inside us, constantly, every second.
I also marvel at how we think and act almost at the same time. We want to type, and our fingers move. We drive while planning our day. Everything flows as if it were simple, but it isn't. It's the result of an extraordinary coordination between brain, muscles, and perception. We are extraordinary. We are strong. We face viruses, stress, accidents, emotions... and we keep going. But we are also fragile. One gesture, an unexpected illness, a word... and everything can be shaken. And this is what surprises me most: that such a well-designed system can break so easily.
This duality—strength and fragility—makes us human. And despite knowing we are vulnerable, we live, we love, we rise. Perhaps that's why we must live with more gratitude and awareness, because being here, with everything we are, is already, in itself, a true feat.
