Ephemeral art towards UNESCO
I admit that I have lived in Baix Penedès for many years but, due to life circumstances, I had never seen the carpets made in Bellvei.
This week, and also due to these coincidences that life has, I have had the pleasure of attending the II International Symposium and the III International Meeting of Carpet Makers, which have taken place in the region, and honestly, I have been totally surprised. I had never seen so many people gathered working for the love of art – and never better said –. And it is that, when you see people who love what they do so much, with the amount of hours they dedicate to it, creating true works of art so that they can be undone afterwards… it is, simply, wonderful.
Besides, there is something that has particularly surprised me: the good atmosphere. How they welcome you, how they live it, the camaraderie… More people like this are needed in this world.
They have been working for many years for the art of carpets to be recognized as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Unesco, and this December we hope that this recognition will become a reality.
If you have never seen how they work, I encourage you, at the next meeting or Corpus Christi celebration that takes place near you, to go and enjoy art in its purest state.
