The women's Barça team surpasses the barrier of one million euros
The Brazilian attacker Kerolin Nicoli arrives from Manchester City and becomes the most expensive signing in history
BarcelonaBarça women already have their new great star. The Blaugrana team surpasses – for the first time in its history – the barrier of one million euros and incorporates the Brazilian attacker Kerolin Nicoli (1999), who arrives from Manchester City and signs for four seasons. After the departures of Alexia Putellas, Ona Batlle, Mapi León and Salma Paralluelo, it was necessary to make a statement to show that the reigning European champion wanted to aspire to all titles again. This has arrived with a name unknown to many, but which in recent weeks has been gaining strength. The operation is now official.
Kerolin, who will turn 27 in November, can play in the three forward positions, which brings versatility to Pere Romeu, who will be able to choose where to place her depending on the scenario and the available players. With a contract until 2028 and a clause that was around two million, she arrives at Barça for a figure exceeding one million euros, according to various sources. The Brazilian becomes the most expensive transfer in the history of women's football. Joan Laporta's board approved the move last Wednesday and mentioned the possibility of playing a friendly against Manchester City – the club from which the Brazilian attacker arrives – on August 15th in England.
"She is a fast, skillful player with a very direct style of play. When she is confident and in form, she is very difficult to stop. What she needs to improve is consistency. With Manchester City she has had games in which she has been the best player on the pitch and others in which she has been very discreet", analyzes Kathryn Batte, journalist for "The Daily Telegraph.A past with Vicky López
It will not be the first time that Kerolin plays in the F League. In the 2020-21 and 2021-22 season, she played for Madrid CFF, where she coincided with a young Vicky López who was just taking her first steps in professional football. Subsequently, she moved to North Carolina Courage in the United States before arriving at Manchester City, where she has played for the last season and a half.
In 2023, she became the best player in the North American league, but her career was halted by an anterior cruciate ligament injury. Kerolin, however, managed to recover in time to play in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, where Brazil won the silver medal. The new Barça player scored one of the goals against Spain in the semifinals.
The forward signs for the Catalan club after being crowned league champions with Manchester City ahead of teams like Arsenal or Chelsea. This past season, she participated in fifteen of the twenty-two matches – nine as a starter – with nine goals scored and five assists.
"A dynamic forward, with explosive speed and a great goal-scoring instinct", as Manchester City defines her, Kerolin arrives at Barcelona with the desire to win all titles and become a reference for Pere Romeu's attack. All this, with an eye also on the World Cup that will be played next summer in her home country.
Last touches to the squad
With the arrival of Renee van Asten, Martina Fernández, Tyler McCamey and Kerolin, Pere Romeu already has three of the pieces he has requested. "The obsession as a club must be defense and one more forward as a replacement for Salma. In midfield we already have many players," said the coach at the presentation of his renewal. The Barça women's squad for 2026-2027 is beginning to take shape, awaiting any last-minute tweaks that may arrive. Efforts are now focused on the right flank.
