Discounts and rush at the close of the Girona transfer window

The Catalan club strengthens with Vanat, Bryan Gil and Livakovic, but loses Yangel Herrera.

GironaThe dice have been cast. Girona announced three arrivals and two departures on the final day of the transfer window, in which they intended to do the homework they hadn't done in a couple of months. Dominik Livaković, Vladyslav Vanat, and Bryan Gil landed at Montilivi, while Yangel Herrera and Dawda Camara packed their bags. Umar Sadiq, a striker who was rumored until the last minute, ultimately didn't arrive. There's no news about the center-back or playmaking midfielder. The free agent market will be awaiting them.

A striker arrived, yes, the Ukrainian Vanat for 15 million euros, variables aside. They also exhausted all options to sign Sadiq, doing all the math to fit him within La Liga regulations. Finally, the Nigerian striker is staying at Real Sociedad. The big investment had to be in that position, and what wasn't expected was that a large sum of money would end up going to the winger, where Bryan Gil, an old acquaintance, returns. He had to terminate his contract with Tottenham, but since he couldn't do so and needs were pressing, Girona ended up paying 6 million plus 4 million in variables for him. The operations, financially speaking, are questionable. And haste is a bad advisor.

Because the day had already started badly, with the confirmation of Yangel Herrera's departure, for which the Catalan club wanted to make a strong entrance into negotiations. When it came down to it, neither the release clause (25 million) nor the market value (15 million) were met: 11 million and thank you, with another two in variables. A bad deal, no matter how you look at it. The other departure was that of the young Banyolí striker Dawda Camara, who went on loan to Cádiz, in the Second Division, with the intention of gaining experience.

The final bombshell was the talks to sign goalkeeper Livakovic, an operation impossible without the collaboration of Manchester City, who were trying to place Ederson at Fenerbahce. The move leaves the Croatian international without a place, and he ends up at Montilivi to opt for the starting position that in recent years has been the property of the controversial Paulo Gazzaniga.

It hasn't been an easy transfer window for the club, suffering from poor investment during the Champions League season and a high salary cap. But this doesn't justify failing to find all the solutions to the shortcomings that were already evident and that have been confirmed by a disastrous start to the season (three defeats in three games). At first glance, it seems insufficient: it hasn't managed to shake up the squad that plummeted in the second half of the season, nor has it generated any excitement with a splash that would galvanize its fans.
