Do you know what's in a glass of milk? Find out at Monells Farm.

Llet Nostra has opened the doors of one of its farms so that young and old can discover first-hand everything that happens before drinking the milk served in a glass.

The #APROP experience, an initiative by Llet Nostra, aims to break the growing ignorance about the origin of the food we consume and presents an educational proposal centered around the Monells dairy farm (EVAM; Monells Vacuum Station). Far from a conventional recreational visit, it aims to convey a clear message: milk production is the result of a complex system involving climate, landscape, livestock, science, and technology.

This experience invites schools to discover how a modern and sustainable dairy farm works, from field to glass, showing how a farm operates with a traditional, family-run, and sustainable model, yet with all the infrastructure and technology necessary for research. They aim to bring students closer to the agri-food sector and convey the message of the importance of consuming local products, educating them about the rural world and the work of livestock families today.

The visit is divided into three parts: a discovery tour of the farm's various outdoor spaces, an immersive audiovisual presentation featuring a farmer, a veterinarian, and a researcher from the Institute of Agrifood Research and Technology (IRTA), and culminating in a sensory tasting workshop.

From the cow to the classroom: learning with all the senses

The pedagogical approach of the activity is adapted to different educational levels. For the youngest children (primary education), the itinerary becomes a scavenger hunt: "Happy Cow, Cumming Cow," in which children discover what cows eat, how this affects the quality of their milk, and end up putting together a puzzle that reveals the entire process.

For these children, they also offer a practical and creative workshop on recycling Llet Nostra cartons and dessert containers to turn them into seedlings and promote environmental awareness. Once the seedlings are completed, they will plant seeds of plants that feed the farm's cows. The children can take their creation home to care for it and observe its germination and growth.

In secondary and high school, the activity takes on a more analytical tone. It reflects on sustainability, energy, food, and preservation of the natural environment. The final activity, the tasting, will be a comparative organoleptic tasting of different types of Llet Nostra, to identify their differences and understand the qualities and benefits of each.

There's also the opportunity to delve deeper into topics such as agri-food marketing and commercialization, with a dedicated talk on the milk value chain, sales processes, cooperatives, and marketing channels. This talk is especially designed for students in social and humanities high school or vocational training courses in business and marketing.

A sustainable model for the future

The #APROP Experience brings children closer to the reality of the rural world through an immersive, educational, and value-filled experience. With this experience, Llet Nostra aims to highlight the work of livestock families, their connection to the region, and the importance of consuming local products.

Every Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, schools can visit this unique space and take part in an educational program with values: respect for the environment, roots in the rural world, and awareness of what we consume. On weekends, the farm is also open to the general public. They can spend the day learning about the work of livestock families and discovering firsthand all the work that goes into a Llet Nostra tetra-brick.
