Do you know the benefits of eating fruit and vegetables every day?
The daily consumption of at least three servings of fruit and two vegetables contributes to a healthy diet and plays an important role in the healthy growth of children.

Have you ever wondered why adults always say "eating fruits and vegetables is very important"? These foods are essential for a healthy diet and help children grow healthy, strong, and full of energy. In fact, including them daily and in the recommended amounts reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease, intestinal disease, obesity, and even some types of cancer. It also guarantees a good supply of vitamins, minerals, fiber, water, and beneficial substances called phosphorus, which are small shields against the bad.
This 2024-2025 academic year, the Departments of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries, and Food of the Generalitat of Catalonia, with co-financing from the EU, have continued to promote the Fruit and Vegetables in Schools program, a campaign that promotes the consumption of fruits and vegetables among students aged 3 to 12, in all schools. This year, the project reached 664 centers and 147,646 students, and included 600 workshops and 400 visits to farms and livestock farms. The goal has been to make children protagonists in learning healthy habits and raising awareness through the consumption of these foods.

Choosing proximity is also choosing quality
Local, seasonal fruits and vegetables are tastier, healthier, and more sustainable. Shopping close to home isn't the same as shopping on the other side of the world. That's why, in Catalonia, choosing local produce also means choosing quality. The goal of the Catalan seasonal fruit and vegetable calendar is to promote their consumption and offer them as an alternative to other foods with lower nutritional quality so that children can enjoy healthy and sustainable food.
