Creative ideas are sought for Catalan
The second edition of 'Call for ideas for Catalan' once again opens the door to new innovative ideas to promote the use of Catalan. The Carulla Foundation allocates up to €40,000 in a new call that ends on June 5th
Have a creative idea? Is it in Catalan? Do you want to make it shine? The Carulla Foundation is once again opening a call to find the most innovative ideas to promote the use of Catalan. The second edition of Call for ideas for Catalan seeks new cultural projects, allocating up to €40,000 in a new call that ends on June 5.
The call aims to promote the social use of Catalan through culture, creativity, and community action, and once again this year it is launching its machinery to highlight new initiatives. "We need creative, community-based, and cultural proposals. With these initiatives, we want to support both projects that are already transforming realities and new ideas capable of generating new scenes, new spaces for use, community, and a future for the language," states Mara Esteve, director of the Carulla Foundation.
Culture plays a decisive role as an element of cohesion and linguistic identity. Language must be cared for, nourished, and made to grow, and cultural ideas have the capacity to transform and generate new communities. That is why the Carulla Foundation is once again issuing a call to find innovative cultural projects, new formats, and initiatives capable of connecting with new audiences and contributing to strengthening the use and vitality of Catalan.
20 ideas, 8 projects and 2 winners
The selected innovative ideas will participate in an intensive training, mentoring, and prototyping process that will combine tools for cultural innovation, entrepreneurship, and social impact. Projects must use any artistic language or medium to promote Catalan from a contemporary, participatory, and transformative perspective, and from all applications, up to 20 ideas will be selected to participate in the first phase of the program.
The program foresees that 8 projects will move to a consolidation and presentation phase before a jury, and finally 2 initiatives will receive economic support of 5,000 euros to develop, with the possibility of accessing additional funding of up to 15,000 euros for their implementation and consolidation as a project.
Throughout this 2026, the two winning projects from the past edition have already become a reality and are an example for new Catalan entrepreneurs. In March, "Fent Caliu" was launched, by content creator Mitja Catalana, a program where in each episode two Catalan content creators team up with two people who are learning the language and compete against each other by overcoming questions, challenges, and games. In less than a month, the first program, filmed in Valls, had already surpassed one million impressions across social networks.
The second winning project was "Buscamot", an app to play with Catalan through a daily challenge, which must be solved through images or photographs. Launched in February, it already has almost 600 users and on average 200 people participate daily to practice the use of the language.
A challenge to grow the social use of Catalan
The Call for ideas for Catalan from the Carulla Foundation is born with the aim of seeking creative solutions to the challenges posed by the National Pact for Language to protect Catalan, reverse the loss of speakers, and expand its social use in all areas of daily life. The pact sets nine major objectives and the challenge of getting at least 600,000 new people to speak Catalan by 2030, and the Foundation's initiative responds to this need.
For almost fifty years, the Carulla Foundation has been working to strengthen the Catalan language and culture, and actions like these reaffirm its historical commitment to the development of transformative cultural projects. Call for ideas for Catalan aims to contribute to activating initiatives that help consolidate the use of Catalan, and the next one could be yours.
