Week of rail closures due to construction in Castelldefels: this is how the Southern and Regional Commuter Lines will be affected.
Renfe has enabled an alternative road service for improvements that will not be completed until Sunday.
BarcelonaImprovement works at Castelldefels station will shut down the R2 Sud lines and southern regional trains throughout this week. To ensure transportation, Renfe will operate an alternative bus service from today until Sunday. Specifically, road transport will be offered between the Gavà and Garraf stations, with stops in Gavà, Castelldefels, Castelldefels Beach, and Garraf. A bus will also be operating non-stop between Gavà and Sitges.
Regarding the southern regional lines, the R14, R15, R16, and R17 trains will begin and end in Cunit, where passengers can continue their journey to Barcelona by bus. The transfer point in Barcelona will be located in the Zona Universitària, where passengers can connect to metro line 3. Bus departures will be every 15 minutes and, according to the rail operator, will connect with train arrivals. Renfe emphasizes that all planned alternative services will be accessible to people with reduced mobility.
The company's plan is to resume regular service starting Sunday at 2:00 p.m. In fact, trains are scheduled to begin running on the affected section on a trial basis and without passengers that same morning, Sunday, September 28th. During these days, Renfe has reportedly deployed forty new information assistants who will be responsible for providing passengers with all the information about the alternative services.
An incident on the R5 line
In addition to the roadworks, following yesterday's downpours, service on the Llobregat-Anoia (R5) line of the Catalan Railways (Ferrocarriles de la Generalitat de Catalunya) is interrupted this Monday morning between Monistrol de Montserrat and Sant Vicenç de Castellet - Castellgalí (Bages) due to a rock blocking the track. Civil Protection, which has activated the pre-alert of its rail passenger transport emergency plan (Ferrocat), reports that the maintenance team is on its way to resolve the situation. This line was already affected this Sunday by trees falling on the overhead lines in the same area.
